Established in 1937, BRMEMC is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative headquartered in Young Harris, Georgia providing service to all of Towns County, Georgia, Union County, Georgia, Clay County, North Carolina and parts of Fannin County, Georgia and Cherokee County, North Carolina. Serving over 54,000 meters representing approximately 47,000 members, and over 6,200 miles of distribution line. BRMEMC has approximately 200 full-time employees. BRMEMC has an all requirements power supply contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). In addition to providing reliable and economic power to its electric members, BRMEMC provides broadband service to approximately 10,000 customers served through its wholly-owned broadband subsidiary. The General Manager will act as the senior executive of the broadband subsidiary. BRMEMC is a member of the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (GEMC), the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association (TVPPA), the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association (TECA) and the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC), all trade associations focused on the interest of their members. BRMEMC is also a member of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), a national trade association representing electric cooperatives nationwide.

The General Manager reports directly to and is accountable to a nine-member Board of Directors elected by the Membership. In this role, the General Manager ensures that all departments maintain a high level of expertise; makes decisions with recommendation from BRMEMC staff in matters relating to the electrical power supply, broadband, financial policies, the electrical system, procurement, staffing and administrative policies. The General Manager is responsible for development and management of the annual budget and assists in all phases of the budget process. He/she works with department heads for departmental budget planning and with the Cooperative staff for overall budget planning, monitoring.
Responsibility to the Board: The General Manager attends regular meetings of the Board, submits items of business to be considered, and makes appropriate recommendations. In addition, the General Manger administers policies of the Board of Directors, and carries out its directives, educates or arranges for education of directors on subjects of importance to the Cooperative. He/she recommends short- and long-range strategies to maintain financial health; adequate power supply; sufficient physical plant and efficient operation; administers a wage and salary plan and recommends compensation levels; employee benefits; and training and development programs to the Board of Directors for approval.
Employee Relations: The General Manager provides leadership to develop and foster a positive work environment. He/she encourages staff participation and suggestion; utilizes appropriate delegation method; and provides necessary training for staff growth and development; succession planning and safety practices.
Meeting Attendance: The General Manager will represent the Cooperative at meetings of all trade associations and other local, regional and national organizations as appropriate.
Professional Relationships: The General Manager shall maintain positive working relationships with appropriate officials at the local, county, state and federal level to promote the needs and objectives of the Cooperative.
Community Relations: The General Manager shall ensure the Cooperative effectively communicates and proactively communicates with and shall be responsive to the needs of a diverse population of members and customers. He/she shall establish a cooperative presence in appropriate community service organizations and shall encourage participation in selected community activities.
