The Director of Career Development for Emerging Careers will design and implement a comprehensive career advising program for students, focused on sectors of employment created by technology-related disruptions or other innovations in the legal marketplace and other employment opportunities for which candidates holding a juris doctor traditionally have not been a significant portion of the applicant pool, including positions: (1) that may require a juris doctor and bar passage, and (2) those for which obtaining a law license is not required, but for which holding a juris doctor gives the job seeker an advantage. These positions include, but are not limited to, opportunities on Capitol Hill, compliance, contract administration, data privacy and security, education, legal operations, policy-related work, and risk management, among others. The Director will develop and implement programs to educate students and graduates about career paths and opportunities available in these sectors. The Director will design and execute an employer outreach strategy to increase the number and geographic diversity of internship and post-graduate employment opportunities in these sectors. This is a two-year position; it may be renewed for an additional year.
Career Advising a
Advise students in one-on-one meetings and on all aspects of the legal career and professional development process.
Plan and implement strategies and workshops to coach and direct students about best practices during the employment search process, including effective self-presentation.
Develop and deliver a comprehensive program to prepare students for on and off-campus, callback, videoconference and telephone interviews.
Educate, promote and advise students regarding careers in emerging employment sectors.
Develop and maintain relationships with employers, including alumni, with emerging sector careers through regular in-person and telephone contact, and create written materials to be used in connection with outreach meetings.
Represent the Career Development Office and the School of Law to numerous constituencies, including current and prospective employers, other career development professionals and professional organizations such as the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium and NALP.
Design and implement a comprehensive legal career planning support system for students pursuing emerging careers, including the necessary print resources, an informative and interactive website, and a database of professional contacts available to assist students throughout the employment search.
Design and implement career-related programs identifying required competencies and outlining best practices for securing employment in various emerging employment sectors, incorporating perspectives from leading employers from the community.

This position is classified as limited term for a 2 year period, with the possibility of a one year renewal
Some night and weekend work and some travel required.
