Great River Energy is seeking a high voltage direct current (HVDC) technician electrician at the Dickinson Converter Station in Buffalo, MN center to provide for the operation, installation, testing, checkout and maintenance of equipment at the Dickinson Converter Station so maximum reliability can be achieved.
General Summary and Responsibilities:
Performs and/or assists in the maintenance of the equipment at the Dickinson Converter Station such as instrumentation, control, protections, monitoring, networking, thyristor valves, water treatment, heating and cooling, AC and DC power systems, fire protection, security system, building equipment, structure and associated equipment.
Performs and/or assists in the installation, testing, checkout of new Dickinson Converter Station equipment such as instrumentation, control, protections, monitoring, networking, thyristor valves, water treatment, heating and cooling, AC and DC power systems, fire protection, building equipment, structure and associated equipment.
Develops and updates maintenance procedures along with maintaining equipment records in area of responsibility.
Responsible for working safely as well as all members of the crew while following GRE safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
Keeps supervisor and foreperson informed of overall conditions and status of work activities.
Education & Experience Requirements: Minimum education requirements include a two-year technical degree/diploma in electrical, computer or electronics related courses or equivalent military education and experience, along with strong electrical, instrumentation & control (I &C) and mechanical troubleshooting skills. A minimum of three years of instrumentation, controls and/or HVDC related experience in the electric utility industry and a minimum of four years GRE experience in the operation and maintenance of a HVDC converter station is preferred.
Knowledge of power, current and voltage transformers and high voltage electrical equipment.
Knowledge of control systems.
Knowledge of AC power measurement, familiarity with inductance, capacitance, and power factor.
Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
Knowledge of data networks.
Knowledge of HVDC rectifier and inverter operation.
Knowledge of communication networks.
Skill and ability to use personal computers and related software including test equipment software, asset management software, Windows-based programs, and email.
Skill and ability to maintain various types of mechanical equipment.
Skill and ability to read circuit diagrams, prints and drawings.
Ability to be self-motivated and be able to work alone without direct supervision.
Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license to perform the essential job functions.
