Substation Electrician on Kodiak Island, in Kodiak, Alaska. This full-time union position is responsible for providing for the integrity, reliability, and protection of the cooperative's transmission and distribution substation systems supplying power to our island communities.
Kodiak Electric Association (KEA) is a progressive and innovative stand-alone generation, transmission, and distribution electric cooperative located on spectacular Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska, 252 air miles southwest of Anchorage, serving approximately 6,000 meters with 387 miles of line. The cooperative is recognized as an industry leader in implementing sustainable, renewable energy solutions with environmental stewardship, and in 2019, our renewable portfolio of hydro and wind generated 99.6% of our power.
Kodiak Island has breathtaking pristine scenic beauty, is a sportsman's paradise, and offers numerous fishing, hunting and recreational activities. This is the land of wild King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silver Salmon, Halibut, and the great Kodiak Brown Bear. Approximately two-thirds of the island is National Wildlife Refuge. The Port of Kodiak is consistently ranked as one of the top three fishing ports in the U.S. Alaska's Emerald Island has a mild, ever-changing maritime climate.

Must be a graduate of an approved Electrical Wireman/Electrician/Meterman apprenticeship and have a minimum of three years of experience in the electrical field. Must be able to perform all required duties of a qualified Journeyman Electrician, and be familiar with National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, OSHA rules and regulations, APPA Safety Manual and other applicable safety codes, RUS List of Materials, and RUS construction specifications. Must be familiar with underground and overhead generation, transmission, and distribution substation systems, and the ability to construct, operate, and repair electrical substation systems. |
