de Toledo High School, a vibrant and innovative independent high school, is looking for a dynamic Director of Athletics and PE to join our Athletic Department effective August 2021. The Director of Athletics and PE reports to the Principal and directly manages the Assistant Director of Athletics and PE and Head Coaches. The Director of Athletics and PE ensures that the athletic program at de Toledo is competitive to other comparable independent high schools within our region. de Toledo currently offers 14 sports and 24 teams. This is a full-time, 11-month position.
Understand and be able to articulate the mission and vision of dTHS as well as the mission of the Athletics and PE Department.
Create, sustain, and oversee the philosophical and day-to-day approach of the department and ensure fidelity to this mission by your direct reports.
Recruit, train, supervise, and provide effective leadership and guidance to the coaching staff.
Follow and advance sportsmanship programs within de Toledo for coaching staff and athletes.
Ensure that the school is professionally represented at athletic events outside of de Toledo.
Prepare and manage venues for both practice and home competitions, ensuring that home venues are equipped to the highest relevant standards.
Maintain and manage all athletic equipment, including inventory, distribution, collection, cleaning, repair, and storage of all athletic uniforms.
Working in coordination with the Director of Facilities, ensure the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and athletic facilities, as well as arranging for athletic transportation with the Transportation Coordinator.
Teach, mentor, and coach student athletics.
Create team athletic schedules consistent with the de Toledo program and ensure proper communication to athletics and their families the schedule, policies and procedures.
Promote professional development within the department.
Set departmental and coaching objectives.
Represent de Toledo in leagues in which we compete and in athletic associations.
Serve on the Leadership Team.
Strategize with the Principal on ways to expand and improve the department every year.
Attend all regular staff and team meetings.
Work with the Parent Organization and boosters clubs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s preferred
Enthusiasm for mission and vision of de Toledo High School and strong commitment to embrace and promote its culture.
5+ years as a high school-level coach with minimum 2 years high-school level athletics administrative responsibilities.
Demonstrated skills in enlisting volunteers and coordinating their effort and energy towards de Toledo sports teams.
Ability to conceive, oversee, and implement a department budget.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with people at all levels and in all settings.
Strong organizational skills sufficient to handle multiple projects, details, and deadlines simultaneously; strong ability to prioritize.
Self-motivating, entrepreneurial, and confident.
Collegially inclined with peers, a willing communicator and collaborator, and an enthusiastic team player.
Comfortable working within a fast-paced, dynamic school environment.
Unquestionable personal integrity, excellent judgment, sound instincts, diplomacy, and patience.
