As an intern at NJ Transit, you will oversee projects from concepts to completion. Our interns step away from the regular sitting at the desk to having the opportunity at hands-on experience with several other business units within NJ Transit. The Equipment Design and Engineering (ED&E) Intern is responsible for project management and engineering tasks needed to support the ED&E group throughout NJ TRANITS’s facilities. Intern engineering work includes office and field opportunities incorporating a wide variety of technical and management functions associated with engineering manufacturing, inspection, and system testing. A successful candidate must adequately follow directions, perform responsibly, and promote professional relationships with customers, contractors, and fellow employees. Projects typically include working with several Fortune 500 companies and working with regional and global rail rolling stock manufacturers with varying degrees of complexity.
Objective of this role:
Assist Project Managers with assorted duties such as document control, budget tracking, compiling data, working on various deliverable packages, creating or working on various MS
Office based documents needed to ensure project tasks are being identified, reviewed, tacked and completed
Basic drawing and schematic reviews or manual reviews will also be required
Evaluate technical and project functions associated with engineering, manufacturing, inspection, and system testing
Skills and Qualifications:
Understanding of the New Jersey TRANIST system and the services it provides.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft program base applications.
Must be able to work in a self-directed manner, effectively interact in project teams, and complete assignments and deliverables in a timely and accurate fashion.
Must possess good math, writing, and presentation skills and have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Must have a good understanding of mechanical and electrical concepts.
