General Manager

The Board of Directors of North Central Electric Cooperative is seeking a qualified and engaged leader to succeed the current General Manager who plans to retire in June 2021.

North Central Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative whose mission is to provide our member-owners with highly reliable, safe electric service, superior customer service and innovative energy solutions at competitive prices. Headquartered in Bottineau, ND, the cooperative is a Touchstone Energy Partner serving approximately 4,800 members and 7,600 meters in Bottineau County and portions of Renville, Rolette, Pierce, and McHenry Counties in North Central ND. North Central Electric Cooperative has 34 full-time employees, over 3,285 miles of distribution line, annual revenue of $25 million and $95.5 million in total utility plant. North Central Electric receives wholesale power from Basin Electric Power Cooperative through Central Power Electric Cooperative on an all-requirements basis. North Central Electric is an RUS borrower.

Bottineau is located in North Central ND in the Turtle Mountain region of ND and in the heart of the Four Seasons Playground. This area is renowned for its fishing, boating, mountain biking trails, and hunting both big and small game. Wintertime activities include snowmobiling, ice fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing. Bottineau has an excellent school system with a new elementary school that opened in the fall of 2020. Bottineau is also home to Dakota College at Bottineau.

Successful GM candidates will have the ability to lead and manage risk, be forward-thinking, have high integrity, possess excellent relationship building and communication skills, demonstrate the ability to achieve results and meet the challenges of the future. Candidates must possess a high regard for electric power safety and safe workplace practices. Candidates are preferred to have, at a minimum, 5 years of experience at an electric utility with a minimum of 3 years at the senior management level. Cooperative experience is preferred. In addition, a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, engineering, or relevant degree is preferred. 

Responsibility to the Board: Reports directly to and is accountable to a nine-member Board of Directors who are elected by the Membership. Administers policies of the board and carries out its directives. Recommends short and long-range strategies to maintain financial health, necessary physical plant, and efficient operation. Administers a wage and salary plan and recommends compensation levels, employee benefits, training, and development programs to the Board for approval. Responsible for development and management of the annual budget and assists in all phases of the budget process. Works with department heads for departmental budget planning and with the office staff for overall budget planning and presentation to the Board.

Professional relationships: Maintains positive working relationships with appropriate officials at the local, county, state, and federal level to promote the needs and objectives of the Cooperative.

Community relations: Ensures the Cooperative effectively communicates pro-actively with, and is responsive to, the needs of a diverse population of member-owners. Establishes Cooperative presence in appropriate community service organizations and encourages participation in selected community activities.
