The Director of STEAM will be a 12-month senior instructional leader at Gann Academy, reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Learning and Teaching, and working with other Instructional Directors to manage the school’s comprehensive approach to curriculum, instruction, teacher supervision and development.
The successful candidate must be a proven team manager who knows how to inspire adults towards a common goal and develop a culture of hard work, innovation, and expansive thinking.
The successful candidate must have a significant level of content expertise in STEAM.
The candidate must have a proven track record of developing creative and inspiring mastery-based curriculum that aligns student learning goals, instructional strategies, and assessments.
While big picture, strategic vision is critical, equally important is the candidate’s track record in implementing big picture ideas and leading teams to ensure that vision translates into excellent learning experiences for students. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, well-organized, and know how to implement and execute projects with follow-through and appropriate communication.
Finally, this individual must enjoy working with teenagers and be an excellent teacher. As part of our core philosophy at Gann, all senior leaders are expected to teach at least one class a year. The successful candidate should truly relish working with young adults in both formal and informal settings from the classroom to the dining hall to the outdoors.

Recruits and participates in faculty hiring decisions in conjunction with the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning and Head of School.
Supervises teachers in the following departments: Science, Computing/Design/Fabrication, Math, and the Arts.
Develops written goals for each direct report, provides formal and informal feedback on progress towards goals.
Develops, in close collaboration with each teacher, a customized professional development and growth plan.
Coaches some teachers directly and, in other cases, coordinates teacher coaching and mentoring as part of teachers’ individualized plans for growth and development.
Works collaboratively with the other senior instructional leaders to ensure that approaches to teaching and learning are consistent across departments.
Ensures that all curriculum is developed with an eye towards differentiation and the differing needs of the many learners we have at Gann.
Incorporates a DEI lens into curriculum development as well as a focus on attaining gender equity in math and science achievement.
Ensures that the curriculum is rich, inspiring, and engaging for students.
Key Administrative Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with teachers to create a vision of excellent learning and teaching to align expectations on what one might observe in a classroom.
Effectively manages the STEAM budget as a careful steward of the institution’s resources; budgeting should be student-centric and strategic.
Communicates effectively and collaboratively with parents.
Key Teaching and Advising Responsibilities
Teaches one course each year in science, math, engineering, computing, or the arts.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND COMMITMENTS
Excellent attention to detail and project management skills.
Expertise and content knowledge in the fields of science, engineering, computing, or mathematics, or the arts.
At least 2-5 years of successful team management experience PLUS
At least 2-5 years of successful teaching experience in the field of STEAM.
Curriculum development experience in the field of STEAM.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and high EQ.
Ability to effectively lead others in managing relationships and interpersonal dynamics, navigate conflict well, and foster a positive work environment.
Ability to maintain a sense of humor and positive outlook.
Interest in working hard and joining an extremely hard-working team.
Supervise teachers in the following departments: Science, Computing, Design & Fabrication, Math, and the Arts
