Maret School is seeking a seasoned and hands-on Director of Buildings & Grounds to oversee the running of our facilities. The Director of Buildings & Grounds will report directly to the Director of Finance & Operations, be an active member of the faculty, and play a leadership role on the Senior Operations Group. Strong organizational, communication, managerial, and collaboration skills are a must. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with campus facilities operations at a school or comparable organization. The Director of Buildings & Grounds must have a strong and demonstrated commitment to Equity & Inclusion and reflect Maret's Mission and Core Values.
Areas of responsibility include:
Asset and Resource Stewardship
- Develop and implement the facilities strategic vision alongside Operations Team
- Proactively plan and implement improvements to, preventative maintenance and repair of, assets including buildings, vehicles, fields, grounds and hardscapes while considering both financial and environmental sustainability options
- Develop and review multi-year budgets for capital replacement needs
- Develop and manage the annual repair and maintenance budget
- Manage and measure utility consumption and contracts
- Organize and maintain the school's physical plans and drawings
- Assist the Director of Finance & Operations in preparing for the monthly Buildings & Grounds Board Committee meeting
Buildings & Grounds Staff Advocate and Project Manager
- Lead, teach, encourage and manage members of the Buildings & Grounds staff
- Advocate for Buildings & Grounds staff members within faculty and broader community
- Oversee and interface with ongoing and ad-hoc vendors on campus including security, cleaning, and catering vendors
- Analyze and adjust workflow to maximize efficiencies
- Oversee a standardized process for handling maintenance tickets
- Manage and oversee capital improvement projects
- Formalize Buildings & Grounds staff member roles and accountabilities
Campus Safety and Security Leader
- Actively serve as member of campus-wide safety and security committees
- Continually identify and implement emergency management policies and procedure best practices
- Manage complex transportation logistics including arrivals/departures, field trips, and sporting practices/events
- Manage and oversee on-going efforts to promote safe and healthy learning and working environments for students and faculty as a result of COVID-19
Effective Communicator
- Communicate effectively and efficiently in written and verbal capacities with Operations Team, faculty, students, parents, and broader community
- Listen intently and ensure excellent customer service
A successful candidate will have the following qualities:
- Strong organizational, communication, managerial, and collaboration skills,
- Deep experience with campus facilities operations at a school or comparable organization,
- Demonstrated success working with and managing MEP and construction trades,
- Technology literate, including BAS and access control systems,
- Professional and gracious demeanor and presentation,
- Extremely organized, able to multi-task effectively with attention to detail
- A strong and demonstrated commitment to Equity & Inclusion and to Maret's Mission and Core Values.
