The Board of Directors of Okanogan County Electric Cooperative (OCEC) is seeking a strategic, results-focused leader with outstanding interpersonal communication skills to become their next General Manager. OCEC has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process.
OCEC is based in Winthrop, WA in the beautiful Methow Valley. If you are looking for an opportunity that blends your demonstrated utility leadership skills with your strengths in analytical thinking and decision-making, all while living in an outdoor recreation playground in Washington, this position could be a great fit for you.
Okanogan County Electric Cooperative is a member-owned, non-profit distribution cooperative that supplies electric service to just over 3,000 members with 376 miles of distribution line covering a service territory of 2,500 square miles. The cooperative has 19 full time employees. The cooperative also operates Okanogan County Energy Inc, a fully owned propane subsidiary.
Successful GM candidates will have experience working in an electric distribution utility environment, leveraging their safety focus, engineering/operations understanding and strong financial acumen for the benefit of the organization and its consumers/members.
Industry knowledge and leadership, team building experience and the want and ability to develop employees will be strengths for the next GM. And though an understanding of power supply and renewable energy resources are helpful attributes, as a cooperative leader, leadership and collaboration within the communities that OCEC serves is must.
While previous CEO/GM experience at an electric utility is definitely a plus, at least 5 years of overall leadership experience is required. A bachelor’s degree is required with a preferred degree in business administration, electrical engineering, accounting and finance, or related degree. Strong candidates will have an advanced degree and/or previous participation in NRECA’s Management Internship Program (MIP).
OCEC is located in Winthrop, WA, a quaint, old western town with antique boardwalks, great boutiques and restaurants. Winthrop and the surrounding Methow Valley is acclaimed for the continent’s largest network of cross country ski trails but is an outdoor recreation destination all year round.
Okanogan County Electric Cooperative is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in the NRECA 401k savings plan with a very generous contribution. The Cooperative also has excellent medical, dental and life insurance plans.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interested parties should apply via the careers page at electric.coop with the following: 1) Cover letter, 2) resume and 3) contact information for 3 professional references. Applications must be received by March 15, 2021.
