Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
We are seeking an innovative, nurturing, and dynamic pre-kindergarten teacher to collaborate on evolving our successful pre-kindergarten program. This teacher will teach about 10 students onsite beginning Fall 2021. Our pre-k program is a half-day program with an Extended Day option that ends at 3:30pm. This is a full-time (half-day + Extended Day), exempt, and benefit-eligible position. It is a ten-month position and reports to the lower school head.
Responsibilities
Possess and utilize knowledge of best practices in early childhood development, education, and diversity, equity, and inclusion pedagogy to provide appropriate instruction
Utilize observation and documentation to assess and monitor growth in all curriculum areas, particularly language development, math, early literacy skills, and social emotional skills
Create an inclusive classroom environment that integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion pedagogy with early childhood teaching and encourages family engagement and partnership
Differentiate instruction and create a responsive curriculum to meet the individual needs of all students
Be able to develop and adjust the curriculum to expertly support foundational skills
Communicate verbally and in writing regularly, clearly, and honestly with parents, informally and through conferences and semester reports
Contribute to and benefit from working with committed and talented colleagues
Incorporate technology in the classroom in a meaningful and developmentally appropriate way
Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school
Teach and exhibit our school’s six core values of excellence, respect, honesty, responsibility, caring, and joy
Proactively prepare and pivot to online instruction when needed
Competencies
Deep commitment to teaching through the lenses of diversity, equity and inclusion
Knowledge of pre-kindergarteners and their developmental progression
Thorough understanding of instructional practices in early childhood skill development
Ability to develop and adapt the curriculum in multiple subject areas
Establish and maintain strong home-school partnerships with families to ensure student success
Strong collegial and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Cultural competency based on experience and professional development in diversity work
Experience teaching early childhood students required; experience teaching in a school setting preferred
Training and/or experience with Responsive Classroom, Singapore Math, and diversity work preferred
