YSC Academy is an independent, college preparatory school, enrolling elite soccer players in grades 6-12. Built with the student-athlete in mind, it is designed to integrate youth soccer development with a college-preparatory education. YSC Academy is seeking a Director of College Counseling who is dynamic and experienced with superb strategic and operating skills to fill this key position. The Director of College Counseling is an integral part of the school and is responsible for managing all aspects of the college counseling process. S/he reports directly to the Head of School. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, detail-oriented, technologically savvy individual with excellent communication skills, a collaborative work style, and able to work in a fast pace environment and have a commitment to education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of students, providing strategies, advice, support, and guidance to those students and their families throughout the application process and making the best-individualized choice for college.
Meet with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on navigating the college process, admissions trends, and individual college options.
Assist students in identifying resources for scholarships and financial aid for colleges and universities.
Navigate the route of international students and their agents through all aspects of the college admission and enrollment process.
Coordinate the calendar of all standardized testing for students, including scheduling test dates, registering students, arranging for special “prep” classes, administering the tests, and providing pre-and post-test counseling.
Develop and interpret extensive summary reports on students’ progress on standardized testing for the school community.
Act in the registrar's role and ensure accurate permanent records of students’ testing and academic work.
Responsible for managing course counseling and administration of Blackbaud programs.
Create and submit materials to colleges in support of college applicants.
Coordinate the faculty writing of requested recommendations for students applying to college.
Prepare transcripts for students.
Write recommendations for students applying to college.
Facilitate visits between students and college representatives at the school.
Work with international students to navigate the US college admissions process.
Coordinate signing day and graduation ceremonies.
Cultivate mutually beneficial working relationships with college counseling colleagues.
Stay abreast of university offerings and maintain familiarity with signature programs.
Track trends in the admissions and college counseling fields.
Key Specialized Duties
Work closely with Union Academy coaches.
Establish strong relationships with college coaches and work heavily with college soccer coaches and recruiters.
NCAA compliance officer
Participate in key college showcasing events
Work with Philadelphia Union on supporting First Team and Union 2 player with their education.
Monitor progress of alumni and professionally signed players
Set up a network of alumni giving and participation
Work with the HOS in alumni fundraising endeavors
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the head of school.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in counseling; master’s degree preferred
At least 5-7 years’ prior experience in college counseling or college admissions
Successful track record working with students from the first contact to college admission
Proven experience with domestic and international students
