As the Manager - Legal & Risk Management Services, you will be responsible for evaluating and monitoring issues related to the property management of apartment communities. Including landlord/tenant laws, crime, security, resident disputes/conflict, and fair housing); mentor field personnel in the management, understanding, and resolution of legal and liability issues. With this position, you will be accountable for identifying trends and recommending solutions to improve and implement processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Evaluate and manage matters related to landlord/tenant law: resident issues and disputes, AMLI's policies and procedures, changes in law, such as CDC eviction moratorium, and fair housing compliance, in collaboration with Operations, other Business Units, and senior management, as necessary, focusing on assessing and de-escalating legal and liability concerns.
Evaluate, investigate and identify crime, security, and other liability concerns and collaborate on company initiatives with local, regional, and senior management.
Evaluate, investigate, manage and resolve resident issues via AMLI's online incident reporting system in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Liaison with outside counsel to ensure legally compliant lease documents and policies and procedures and assist with resolving disputes, as necessary.
Conduct legal research to evaluate new initiatives and changes to existing policies and practices in collaboration with supervisor and other business units, as needed.
Collaborate and share expertise across areas of responsibility within the Legal & Risk Department. Participate in Legal & Risk Management educational opportunities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or paralegal certification or degree is required.
A minimum of 3 years of related work experience in property management operations is required. Experience in dispute and conflict resolution, fair housing compliance, and risk management of legal matters related to landlord-tenant laws, leases, residents, and crime and security is preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of general legal terms, laws, and procedures related to the apartment industry, contracts, and leases are preferred.
MS Office, including word and excel. Strong verbal / written communication skills and strong presentation skills are required.
Team Player. Strong customer service experience and effective in managing various and concurrent priorities. Organization, detail orientation, and flexibility are essential to this role.
