The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of event planning and/or sales experience and be flexible with availability to work any shifts. Other qualifications include a proven record of exceeding goals, the ability to work weekends and nights, and a thorough knowledge of Spartanburg venues, wedding planners and demographics. The ideal candidate will exude high energy, a driver personality, creativity, competitiveness, flexibility and the ability to clearly articulate the charm of the Marriott experience.
To develop business leads, solicit potential clients, service existing accounts, sell all hotel facilities, and meet and exceed budgeted revenue.
Perform duties associated with business development. Develop and follow a targeted action plan and update plan on a monthly basis. Develop, pursue and follow through with business leads.
Create clients by providing prospects with complete and accurate information on hotel. Determine client needs and possible objections; provide persuasive arguments to close the sale. Negotiate rates to maximize revenues.
Develop positive working relationships with existing clients by anticipating needs and acting promptly to rectify any problems.
Practice effective revenue/yield management to include wise negotiation and booking function space, focused solicitation during soft occupancy periods and effective rate and price negotiation.
Consults with representatives of client group or organization to plan details such as number of persons expected, display space desired, and food service schedule. Have a comprehensive understanding of the property and its offerings.
Maintain accurate and proper handling/records of catering and reservations books.
Notifies various department heads of arrangements made to ensure high level of service and guest satisfaction.
Directs associates in preparing banquet and convention rooms and erecting displays and exhibits.
Inspects rooms and displays for conformance to needs and desires of group.
Arranges publicity, special functions, adjusts complaints and performs other duties to promote good will.
Possess strong working knowledge of business development and sales techniques, catering and banquet operations, yield management, service standards and techniques, guest relations and etiquette, food and beverage, service ware and equipment, menu development and general hotel knowledge and practical ability to apply business knowledge in a hotel setting.
Possess the ability to make effective judgments on the various components of the positions and the property to effectively solve guest and operational problems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (WEDDINGS):
Managing Event Logistics and Operations
Ensures that all wedding events progress seamlessly by following established procedures, collaborating with other employees, and ensuring accuracy.
Greets client during the event phase and hands-off to the Event Operations team for the execution of details
Ensures billing accuracy and conducts bill reviews with the clients prior to processing the final bill.
Manages group room blocks and meeting space for wedding party and guests.
Identifies operational challenges associated with his/her group and determines how to best work with the property staff and client to solve these challenges and/or develop alternative solutions.
Uses his/her judgment to integrate current trends in event management and wedding event design. • Acts as liaison between field salesperson and client throughout the event process (pre-event, event, post-event).
Participates in client site inspections and assists with the sales process as necessary.
Solicits feedback from the property departments to identify areas for improvement to enhance the event.
Delivers excellent customer service throughout the client experience and encourages the same from other employees.
Coordinates and communicates event details both verbally and in writing to the client and property operations.
Follows up with client post-event.
Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints.
Uses personal judgment and expertise to enhance the client experience.
Conducts formal pre- and post-event meetings as required to review/communicate group needs and feedback.
Leads formal pre-event and post-event meetings as needed.
Assists in the sales process and revenue forecasting for client groups.
Up-sells products and services throughout the event process.
Forecasts group sleeping rooms and event revenue (catering and audio visual) for his/her groups.
Take initiative to use his/her experience to improve service performance according to his/her evaluation of the issue and resolution.
Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs

Ability to analyze client needs and negotiate pricing along with client requests.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, along with demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to work under time pressure.
Demonstrated ability to work with maximum efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail.
Must have experience in all Microsoft Office and industry relevant Sales systems. CI/TY experience is preferred.
