The Out-of-Door Academy seeks an Athletic Director to join a thriving school community that is committed to living its mission for every young person in our care. We are seeking a visionary, passionate and collaborative person to lead Out-of-Door’s athletics program for grades 6-12 starting in July 2022. The Athletic Director at Out-of-Door is a member of the leadership team and works closely with the School’s Division Heads and Admissions Department. The successful candidate will bring a strong work ethic and will embrace the school’s core values of respect, integrity, service, excellence, and responsibility. The Athletic Director is responsible for all aspects of the department including hiring, scheduling, supervision of the athletic facilities and transportation. It will be important for the next director to leverage the right balance by maintaining participation on teams, positioning the program for competitive success, while also thinking creatively as to what is best for students and the overall goals of the school. By July 2022, we expect the department to include a supportive staff of Assistant Athletic Directors, a certified athletic trainer, a certified strength & conditioning coach and an administrative assistant.
Engaging and encouraging students in the school’s athletic teams and events.
Enforcing school expectations of students, staff and patrons.
Hiring, mentoring and evaluation of coaching staff.
Communicating information to students and parents.
Overseeing student standards for eligibility.
Being administrator in charge of athletic facilities, events and the athletic program budget.
Representing Out-of-Door at the local and state level within the FHSAA.
Interpreting and following FHSAA rules and regulations.
Overseeing the scheduling of contests and the personnel needed to host events.
Managing game day operations and traveling to away games.
Serving as the liaison between the program and the Upper and Middle School Division Heads.
Ensuring that while student-athletes are challenged and stretched, there is an overall love of the sport that is fostered through positive encouragement and support.

Out-of-Door was founded on Siesta Key in 1924 to serve student...s in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1996, a second campus in the Lakewood Ranch area of Sarasota was acquired to accommodate the addition of an upper school. Both campuses have evolved and developed to meet the needs of a growing enrollment as well as to enhance and enrich the experience of every student at ODA. Today, the five-acre Siesta Key campus is home to the Lower School (PK-5), and the 90-acre Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch houses both the Middle and Upper Schools. Facilities include interactive technology in every classroom, a fine and performing arts center with a black box theater, a student and STEM Center, a competition gymnasium with wellness center, a field house, a lighted stadium, tennis courts and a practice complex. A new Middle School campus was recently completed and opened in August, 2020.
