The Arizona State University (ASU) Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation invites applications for the Translational Nursing Science Professor at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor tenured/tenure track. We are specifically seeking applicants who have expertise in translational nursing research and a focus on interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public.
President - Dr. Michael M. Crow is an educator, knowledge enterprise architect, science and technology policy scholar and higher education leader. He became the sixteenth president of Arizona State University in July 2002 and has spearheaded ASU’s rapid and groundbreaking transformative evolution into one of America’s best public metropolitan research universities. Under Dr, Crow’s leadership, ASU has established twenty-five new transdisciplinary schools, including the School of Earth and Space Exploration, the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and the School of Human Evolution and Social Change, and launched trailblazing multidisciplinary initiatives including the Biodesign Institute, sixteen use-inspired research centers focused on biomedicine and health, sustainability and security; the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability and the nation’s first School of Sustainability, which advance research, education and business practices at the intersection of nature and the made environment. Dr. Crow previously served as executive vice provost and professor of science and technology policy at Columbia University. He has advised the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, and Energy, as well as defense and intelligence agencies, and serves as Chairman of In-Q-Tel. He is a former member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and has advised several nation-states on matters of knowledge enterprise development.
Dean – Dr. Judith Karshmer is dean and professor of Arizona State University’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She came to ASU in 2018 from the School of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of San Francisco (USF), where she is Dean Emerita. Dr. Karshmer’s focus is on expanding the global footprint of the college through academic practice partnerships that promote the college’s research agenda while embedding students and faculty in the community in meaningful ways, an approach she pioneered at USF. She was also instrumental in developing the first doctorate of nursing program in California and establishing an “evidence-based” education model that challenges students and faculty to think creatively to produce better health solutions and outcomes. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and was named “Most Influential Women in Business in the Bay Area ‘Forever Influential Honor Roll’ in 2016. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services.

Edson College faculty also collaborate with a wide-ranging group of community and healthcare organizations to improve the economic, social, and cultural health and vitality of shared local, state, national, and global communities. Examples of these organizations Include Mayo Clinic, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Banner Health, Dignity Health, HonorHealth, and the VA Medical Center.
Have the eligibility for entry-level licensure in Arizona; must provide evidence/receipt of an Arizona Registered Nurse license prior to first day of
Earned a Ph.D. or similar degree in health research or related area from an accredited university;
Hold a record of scholarly productivity, extramural funding, and teaching experience;
Have previous teaching and mentoring experience;
Obtain a working knowledge of and ability to plan, implement, and evaluate research initiatives within and across academic and clinical environments;
An established program of research relevant to the position as evidenced by extramurally funded research and peer-reviewed, high-quality publications, and dissemination activities;
Have the potential for securing additional extramurally funded research and
Excellent communication skills;
Demonstrated effectiveness in leading and collaborating on research programs and initiatives across diverse professions;
Currently funded projects relevant to the position;
Experience as a research mentor to undergraduate and graduate students;
Service as a mentor to and/or collaborator with peer and junior faculty;
Experience as an effective teacher in the classroom, laboratory, or field sites;
Professional leadership within local, regional, national, and international
