Samtec Optical Group is seeking an engineer to perform validation testing on high-speed optical transceivers. The successful candidate, a hands-on engineer with project management expertise, will be responsible for test station design, bring-up, and automation, as well as performing device validation testing on new optical products. In addition to data acquisition, this role requires data analysis, report authoring, and collaboration with members of the Engineering team to resolve design issues identified during test.
Design, bring-up, maintenance and optimization of Design Validation Testing stations.
Direct and hands-on participation in performing Design Validation Testing, analyzing the DVT data and summarizing results in DVT reports.
Work with the product design and systems engineers to drive root cause understanding of test failures, to isolate issues to product design, component performance, or test station equipment/architecture/software reasons.
Post-release support of products with testing for failure analysis and manufacturing yield debug as needed.
Develop new test scripts and algorithms for testing our optical transceivers.
Desired Skills and Experience:
The candidate must possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other applicable discipline. More than 2 years of experience in a similar position is strongly desired.
Proficiency with optical communication and RF test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, digital sampling oscilloscopes, signal generators, BERT, TDR, etc.
Experience in high speed optical development and validation. Expertise with 10 to 25+ Gbps opto-electronic components including specifications, design and development, performance optimization, qualification and high-volume manufacturing.
Direct experience in high speed circuit debugging, and optimization.
Very hands-on and able to work independently, with strong Project Management skills and problem-solving ability.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
Software experience (Python and test automation a plus).
Tolerance for ambiguity.
Mixed signal design expertise desired including board layout with 14 GHz+ signals.
Knowledge of solid-state laser and PD characteristic, TIA/LD, CDR and equalization schemes are desirable.
Knowledge about PCIe and SAS physical and protocol layer is a plus.
Experience with JMP or other statistical software.
Ability to meet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance requirements.
Lifting Requirements: Light Work – must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly from floor to waist.
Must be able to sit for more than 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
Must be able to spend extended periods standing and walking in a clean-room environment.
Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions: Must be willing to work in a chemical environment while following all department safety rules and regulations.
