Job Summary - The Executive Director, Foundation is responsible for managing the overall strategic, operational, staffing,execution and governance of the CAP Foundation. Advising and supporting the CAP Foundation Board of Directors (BOD) in executing the mission of the organization. Serving the Board in formulating the Foundation’s goals and objectives, making recommendations, planning, and participating in all BOD meetings. Leading the Foundation staff and managing the organization consistent with high ethical standards, the Foundation’s Bylaws, and the law. Leading and managing fundraising to achieve programmatic and business goals. Exercising responsible financial stewardship in partnership with the CAP Vice President of Finance. Building external relationships and serving as an advocate, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of Foundation programs and resources
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Board Engagement and Development:
Build effective partnerships with the President and members of the Board of Directors working to ensure all board members feel valued and participate fully in the work of the board.
Staff the Board and oversee appropriate staffing of Foundation committees ensuring that their goals and objectives support the mission of the organization.
Work with the Foundation President to plan efficient and productive meetings by preparing meeting agendas that are aligned with the needs of the organization and focus on strategic discussions.
Encourage ongoing adaptation and improvement by providing timely and useful information to the Board by monitoring trends, changes in association and member needs, and other information may affect the organization’s mission.
Oversee the periodic self-assessment of the Board’s own performance as a tool for continual improvement and to identify areas of opportunity.
Ensure that all Foundation meetings and elections processes are executed in accordance with Foundation Bylaws.
Ensure Board approved policies are reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
Advise the President on annual committee appointments
Inspire and motivate staff by helping them understand how their work supports the Foundation’s mission and goals.
Create a staff structure that support’s the organization’s goals, objectives and priorities and that is flexible as needs evolve.
Provide opportunities and encourage staff development, training, and teambuilding promoting individual growth and contributions to the decisions affecting their work in supporting the mission of the organization.
Ensure adequate resources to enable staff to maximize efficiency and productivity.
Ensure the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of programs and services.
Exercise Responsible Financial Stewardship
Responsible for making sound day-to-day financial decisions within the parameters established by the Board.
Oversee the program expenses monitoring financial statements.
Partner with the CAP Vice President of Finance to prepare a realistic operating budget in support of the work of the Foundation.
Responsible for ensuring appropriate Board approval and oversight for the annual budget, external audit, the annual 990 form filing and interim financial statements.
Monitor the appropriate use of resources protecting assets against fraud and abuse.
Lead and Manage Fundraising
Provide leadership to the Foundation Board related to all aspects of fundraising.
Responsible for building relationships with key individual and corporate donors and ensuring effective board involvement in fundraising.
Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive fundraising programs to meet the annual financial goals and further the growth of the Foundation.
Lead the Development Committee to develop and increase fundraising revenue and the visibility of the work of the Foundation.
Served as an ambassador for the Foundation speaking compellingly and convincingly to garner donor support.
Ensure a robust, appreciative and timely system for donor recognition.
Serve as the Foundation staff liaison with the CAP and related organizations.
Enhance and strengthen relations with the CAP.
Encourage open communication across the organization and work collaboratively to meet the CAP needs relating to the Foundation.
Responsible for working with the Sr. Manager Programs and Fund Administration to determine the most effective and efficient programs and processes, criteria for success, and outcomes measures.
Ensure Board evaluation of current award and grant programs through evaluation of data on application tracking, award recipients, and outcome data.
Explore initiating new programs consistent with the Foundation’s mission and resources.
Marketing and Public Relations:
Responsible for oversight of the development and ongoing implementation of the marketing and communications plans to increase awareness of the Foundation, its programs, the value the Foundation brings to the CAP, to member donors, and to corporate sponsors including results of the award-making endeavors.
Ensure robust communications and media relations campaigns are delivered to increase local and national visibility for Foundation programs.

Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree preferred
10+ years of senior management experience with a health-related organization and/or a Foundation preferred including:
Foundation experience with 501(c) designations,
Organizational and staffing planning,
10+ years successful experience in individual and corporate fundraising.
CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) preferred--The leading credential for certification for philanthropic fundraising professionals.
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA / TRAVEL / REMOTE WORK
Approximately 20-40% travel required.
