WREC is seeking an electrical engineer with experience and knowledge of electric distribution systems. WREC is one of the largest electric cooperatives in the US with over 200,000 consumers and over 10,000 miles of distribution and sub-transmission lines. WREC’s service area is located along Florida’s nature coast and is convenient to Tampa, Orlando, and the gulf beaches.
Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-approved Engineering school, college, or university.
Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and basic computer programs and be able to transfer text, data, and graphics from multiple software applications to another.
Must be a team player with good communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with line construction and operations personnel, WREC management, land developers, electrical contractors, and WREC consumers.
Good short term and long-term planning skills.
Additional Preferred Requirements:
Two or more years experience at an Electric Cooperative with knowledge of RUS rules and regulations and the NESC.
Construction experience and/or knowledge of practical construction principles.
Obtained or perusing registration as a Professional Engineer
Experience and/or knowledge of the following is a plus: SCADA systems, ESRI GIS software, Milsoft Distribution Analysis software, Sectionalizing and coordination software, RUS Construction Work Plans, and AutoCAD.
Coursework and/or training in the following is a plus: Powers Systems including symmetrical components and the per unit system, Electric Machines (transformers), Statics, and Engineering Economics.
Plans construction and coordinates the operation of facilities that distribute electric energy to WREC’s consumers.
Justifies the need for substations and overhead and underground circuits in urban and rural areas.
Prepares material/design specifications and cost estimates.
Review complex electrical computations to determine the type and arrangement of circuits and the type and size of equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and lightning arresters.
May be designated as Transmission, Distribution, Planning, Standards, or Substation Engineer.
Provides technical support with voltage drop analysis, motor start analysis, fault current analysis, and other technically related analysis.
Research and designs system protection and loading schemes to resolve problems and maintain sectionalizing coordination.
Programs electronic controls for sectionalizing and distribution automation equipment.
Assists in the preparation of WREC’s two-year Construction Work Plan and the Long Range Planning Report.
