Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering and Operations, the System Administrator is responsible for maintaining technical solutions to support the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) organization. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for operating, monitoring, deploying, documenting, patching, and troubleshooting core system infrastructure such as server operating systems, server hardware, virtualization platforms, storage arrays, and applications. The incumbent is a subject matter expert in data center-centric to Cloud-based infrastructure who envisions future state technologies, delivers increased agility, scalability, performance, and resiliency. This role will support, analyze, administer, and deploy solutions to drive technology modernization and the incorporation of industry best practices. This position is classified as 100% remote and will work from home full-time. There may be occasional visits to the UCR campus as necessary. Working hours will be based on Pacific Standard Time (PST). This is a two-year position with a maximum budgeted annual salary of $102,500. This position may continue beyond two-years, should permanent funding become available in the future.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) Certification
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) Certification
4 - 7 years of related experience.
Hands-on experience with Windows AD directory, Group Policies, Powershell, Windows Server environments, and Office 365.
Hands-on experience with server back-up tools such as Veeam, Backup Exec, and experience managing complex patching deployments of various systems.
Demonstrated experience administering both Linux and Windows servers as well as hands on experience with Linux shell and Perl.
Demonstrated experience running cloud-based workloads on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Must pass a background check.
Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours
Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development.
Must actively participate in an on-call rotation support a 24/7 IT operation.

Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions. Ability to manage server and infrastructure hardware in an enterprise-class data center environment. Ability to manage various storage technologies including SANS, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, clustered files systems, and storage operating systems. Advanced knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware ESXi, Docker, or Kubernetes to manage virtualized workloads. Basic knowledge of installation and maintenance of database platforms (e.g. Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL). Experience installing, managing and supporting IIS, Tomcat, Weblogic, or other application servers. Experience with the following protocols: HTTP, FTP, DNS, LDAP, IMAP, SMTP, SSL, SSH, CIFS, NFS.
