This position is located in the SCI/D of the Syracuse VA Medical Center, in Syracuse, NY. Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the multidisciplinary spinal cord injury setting, especially in the areas behavioral medication, behavioral problems, and suicide assessment; Participation in team meetings and quality improvement groups including rehabilitation meetings, CARF certification and various other team environments; Provides a full range of psychological interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in spinal cord injury; Works closely with the spinal cord injury team to facilitate patient and family education appropriate to the setting and the specific presenting issues; Provides consultation services to support team decision-making and improving team-patient working relationships; Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues (e.g., serving on Medical Center?s Opioid Safety Committee, as needed); Provide empirically validated treatments for behavioral strategies (such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP) and relaxation strategies); Provides consultation services to support team decision-making, building on physician and healthcare team interventions and improving team-patient working relationships; Provides clinical supervision to Psychology Interns and Postdoctoral Fellows completing training rotations in the assigned setting; Develops and leads SCI psychology fellowship programs, and provides teaching and support to trainees in other disciplines as needed, including undergraduate students, medical students, residents and fellows; Participates in program-wide outcome evaluation studies; Participates in research and academic pursuits, including publication and presentation of case presentations, clinical and research grant submission, quality improvement and research; Other duties as assigned.
