POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of CETL (Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning), Faculty Training & Technology is responsible for collaborating on the development, coordination, and delivery of a variety of training and development programs for the faculty and educational staff of the CIA. The Manager actively works to support the effective implementation and use of the MOODLE course management system, the improvement of student learning assessment planning, the enhancement of instructional development and teaching effectiveness, and faculty professional development as part of the Education team.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership in faculty development by designing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive program.
- Enhances individual teaching effectiveness by consulting with individual faculty to facilitate growth in appropriate pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment of student learning.
- Collaborates with Faculty Council committees for Academic Technology & Facilities, and Student Learning Outcomes Assessment as needed, providing informed analysis and sound administrative counsel.
- Supports development of training and development programs for the CIA’s faculty and educational staff in concert with the leadership of the Education Division to promote enhanced teaching effectiveness.
- Works with business partners in Academic Support Services and Information Technology and keeps abreast of instructional strategies and technology to strengthen faculty teaching effectiveness.
- Reviews faculty class materials and content for MOODLE, making recommendations for improvement in the area of instructional design. Communicates with the Information Technology team, and the Office of the Registrar to ensure proper program support is available to faculty, educational staff, and students.
- Works with the academic support departments to develop new programming including online orientation for new students, externship preparation, International student program.
- Communicates and publicizes all training and development program offerings of the CETL as requested. Assists in the maintenance of the CETL resources on the internal portal, the CIA Main Menu.
- Provides training programs under their direction, including scheduling, publicizing, tracking of attendance, reporting on required training programs and preparation of materials. Conducts training assessments and provides data for use in training metrics as directed.
- Serves as the academic technology “helpdesk” for CETL.
- Any and all other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Communications, Instructional Design, or a related field required or five (5) years of progressive experience within the field of academic technology including training and development, instructional design, or faculty development support.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience in academic technology, training and development, instructional design or faculty development support.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred mix of training and development or higher education teaching experience will include facilitation of large and small groups, working with faculty and educational staff and developmental training.
- Experience working with the Moodle LMS (Learning Management System).
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Advanced skills in MS Project Planner required.
- Computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with e-Learning and Learning Management Systems, and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel. Advanced skills in PowerPoint required.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of faculty disciplines, specifically including chef faculty.
- Good facilitation and presentation skills; comfortable with e-learning environments.
- Proven ability to develop training plans/schedules and develop instructional materials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Proven, consistent track record showing the ability to work with all levels within an organization.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
- Regular work requires the use of a computer, sometimes in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
