The University of Maine System seeks applications for the position of System Administrator I / II at the University of Maine System Information Technology group to provide system administration support (installation, administration, monitoring, tuning, backup, security, and design) for mission-critical enterprise and departmental server systems. System Administrators work closely with database administrators, developers, vendors, and application stakeholders to deliver robust and secure computing solutions. The differences between the positions are based on experience and the level of engagement and oversight on various initiatives.
The primary work location for these positions is at the Orono campus of the University of Maine. Remote working from other UMS Campus locations or anywhere in the United States is a possibility for qualified applicants.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or closely related technical field or equivalent professional experience.
- One or more years of professional experience in computer systems programming and computer server administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience working in a higher education information technology department.
- Experience supporting Oracle Enterprise Linux or other RPM-based Linux distribution.
- Experience providing operating system support to one or more enterprise applications, such as PeopleSoft (Java server), or WordPress (LAMP)
- Experience providing operating system support to one or more Database server software packages, such as Oracle RDMS, MySQL/MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
- Experiencing using scripting languages and automation tools such as Ansible to manage server systems.
