General Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to administer the interconnection process for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) connecting to the Cooperative’s distribution system, as required by the Cooperative Minnesota Interconnection Process (CMIP), by coordinating with cooperative members and internal employees to professionally process applications and provide superior service. Provide administrative support to the Engineering and Operations department by tracking and reporting DER information as needed for statutory and regulatory requirements and internal policy.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Administers the interconnection process for DER connecting to the Cooperative distribution system as required by the Cooperative Minnesota Interconnection Process (CMIP) and ensures full compliance of the CMIP is met.
Provides coordination assistance to members who are interested in DER or have submitted an interconnection application by ensuring responses to members are timely, accurate, complete, and professional.
Promptly manages the interconnection queue and DER interconnect email inbox so that applications are processed efficiently, the online portal is up-to-date, and application milestones are not missed.
Tracks and reports DER information as needed for monthly and annual reporting. Develops tools and methods to efficiently track and present DER information. Performs data analysis, and creates reports to assist engineering staff, management and the Director of Engineering and Operations.
Assumes primary responsibility for evaluating cost-of-service study results, recommending rate changes, and applying rate changes that pertain to DER. This includes communicating the associated rate changes to the existing DER members.
Responsible for answering member DER billing questions and collaborating with member services to add new DER systems to accounts.
Develops knowledge and in-depth understanding of state statutes, regulatory requirements, and wholesale supplier policy requirements. Implements changes to DER documents, the Cooperative website, and internal work procedures to ensure alignment with all statutes and requirements, ensuring that all DER data being tracked is compliant.
Assists the Marketing Specialist and Safety Coordinator in maintaining the renewable energy section on the Cooperative’s website, ensuring that the website is thorough and informative, and the appropriate documents are accessible and up to date.
Collaborates with the Marketing Specialist and Safety Coordinator to develop communications and educational materials, regarding renewable energy and energy storage systems, to ensure members, employees, and the public are well informed.
Assumes primary project manager responsibilities for planning, construction, interconnection, and operation and maintenance for Cooperative owned DER systems.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. A combination of an associate degree plus three or more years of relevant experience will be considered. In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in utility electrical marketing, utility service, or related field will be considered.
Previous experience working with renewable energy and/ or an electric utility is preferred.
