About Us: Brawerman Elementary School is the day school of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, a Reform Jewish congregation. Brawerman has two campuses and approximately 380 students. The original West campus was founded in 1999 in a modern facility located in West Los Angeles. The East campus opened in 2011 at the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Koreatown. Position Overview, Duties, and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Evaluate teachers according to Brawerman expectations and values with a goal of building a culture of continuous growth and reflection
- Act as an instructional leader for classroom teachers, which may include - but is not limited to - coaching around instructional strategies, differentiation, curriculum design, engagement, classroom management, and/or inquiry-based learning
- Work with teachers to ensure individual student academic progress, which may include - but is not limited to - connecting school resources, coordinating with outside support providers, facilitating Student Success Team meetings, and ensuring implementation of specific accommodations/modifications/learning plans
- Support teachers by meeting weekly to discuss curriculum and lesson planning, programming, and meeting student needs
- Design and implement appropriate professional development, in collaboration with the Principals and the Assistant Principals (across both campuses), to support staff in effectively and engagingly executing the curriculum - this includes summer orientation, Professional Learning Meetings, and Professional Days
- Oversee the smooth operations of the elementary school, which may include but is not limited to class schedules, holiday programming, enrichment programs, and supervision duties.
- Take a leadership role in the WASC accreditation process and Strategic Planning process, as needed
- Coordinate ERB testing, teacher & student preparation, and data analysis/communication in collaboration with other administrators and teachers
- Proactively engage parents, developing relationships and partnerships throughout the school
- Support admissions and advancement efforts, including assessing prospective students for readiness to enroll in Brawerman and acting as a marketing ambassador who advocates for the school at all times
- Assist the Head of School and Principal with recruiting and hiring faculty and staff members for the Elementary School
- Communicate through writing or other media the school’s programs, which may include - but is not limited to - for the school newsletters, annual report, social media posts, the website, other publications, or other forms of media
- Coordinate field trips with teachers and administrators, including overnight field trips
- Supervise and accompany grade level teachers and students on overnight field trips
- Monitor and supervise needs for books and instructional/classroom materials, including purchasing and accounting
- Support and supervise teachers’ report card writing and completion
- Attend board/committee meetings and prepare reports upon request
- Other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Head of School and/or Principal

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Work environment: Work will be performed in an office, education, and religious environment and in communities served. The physical arrangement of the office and physical space may require the position to work in an open environment within close proximity to other colleagues, as well as around students and teachers. Workspace must be organized and reflect efficiency. The job requires walking the entire campus and includes two levels of stairs that need to be traversed regularly as a normal part of the work day. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The ideal candidate:
- High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic, nurturing, and highly collaborative atmosphere
- Successful track record of reflection, collaboration, curriculum assessment and design across grades, teacher evaluation, and work with a wide range of learners
- Bachelor’s degree; Advanced degree in educational leadership preferred
- Teaching credential (preferred) with a minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably within independent schools
- Strong understanding and practice of educational technology
- Outstanding interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
- Experience in conflict resolution
