Description
Ravenscroft School is an all gender independent day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,205 students enrolled in grades preschool through 12th grade.
We are looking for an Innovation Lab Co-Coordinator to join our community of educators that actively strives to be diverse, equitable and inclusive. As an Innovation Lab Co-Coordinator at Ravenscroft, here is what you get to do:
This experienced educator will bring energy and passion to steward the Keim Center Innovation Lab, teach Upper School elective courses offered through the Innovation, Design, and Engineering (IDE) department, and coach the varsity Robotics team. Other responsibilities and competencies include:
Further the Development of Upper School IDE Initiatives
- Create a positive, inspiring, student-centered learning environment that encourages inquiry, productive failure, and risk-taking
- Help develop, implement, and continuously seek best practices in the curriculum
- Serve as a divisional liaison for faculty, supporting the incorporation of innovative practices, maker education, and design thinking in their curricula
- Engage in ongoing professional development by attending relevant conferences, staying current on STEM+ educational literature, and maintaining an active professional network of colleagues
- Foster mutually beneficial relationships between students and members of the larger community, including university and business contacts in innovative fields
- Teach through the lens of the Ravenscroft Design Process
Steward of the Keim Center Innovation Lab
- Act as steward and ambassador of the Keim Center Innovation Lab, helping members of our community find ways to utilize the space creatively
- Serve as one of the point persons for faculty use of the Innovation Lab and Virtual Reality/Design Lab
- Continue the development of safety protocols for the use of equipment; including the development of a training/badge program for student leaders
- Stay abreast of ever-changing maker/design-related technology (hardware and software) so that curriculum supported by the lab remains fresh and cutting edge
- Coordinate regular maintenance of tools, equipment, and machinery in the lab
- Co-manage the budget of the lab and coordinate all necessary purchasing
Teach Upper and Middle School STEM+ Elective Courses
- Teach a reduced load of Upper School IDE courses, including Robotics, Engineering, and Design and Making
- Coach the Upper School Robotics team
- Be available, as needed, to tutor/coach students in groups or as individuals
Other responsibilities and competencies include:
- Designing lessons that support the Ravenscroft mission to “nurture individual potential and prepare students to thrive in a complex and interdependent world”
- Exhibiting superior teaching skills that demonstrate best practices, including inquiry-based learning, differentiated instruction, and facilitation
- Demonstrating cultural competence and the ability to connect with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Advising approximately 12 students and facilitating the integration of Ravenscroft’s “Lead from Here” curriculum
- Demonstrating effective technology skills, including the ability to use Ravenscroft’s learning management systems (Canvas and Veracross)
- Having an interest in serving on committees, leading a student club, and/or coaching
- Having experience supporting social-emotional learning inside and outside of the classroom; an eagerness and ability to support our Lead From Here curriculum
- Demonstrating a growth mindset and the ability to receive feedback, adapt to different learners’ needs, and become a valued colleague in a strong and cohesive department
NOTE: The Innovation Lab in the Keim Center for Innovation and Research is an expansive, vibrant, and student-centered Makerspace environment that enables forward-thinking curricular initiatives at Ravenscroft.
Qualifications:
- STEM-related Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience required. Advanced degrees and certifications are preferred
- Willing to assist and support students above all else
- Strong teaching skills with an ability to meet various learning styles
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Technical skills and knowledge of a wide range of computer technologies and applications
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team
- Ability to connect, collaborate, and partner with students, teachers, administrators, and staff
