This individual manages key aspects of concert production in support of all Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) concerts and events. Responsibilities include managing information regarding technical and production aspects, serving as stage manager and hiring and managing crew, overseeing related budget items, and ensuring pertinent production information is communicated to all internal and external constituencies in an effective manner.

• Gather and communicate technical, production, and staging information to appropriate personnel for all performances, presentations, and events. This includes, but is not limited to, the effective translation of artistic needs as articulated by the Artistic Administration Department into production and staging requirements.
• Manage all technical aspects of ASO’s special event performances. Liaise with ASO staff and outside constituents, including production crew and vendors.
• Act as principal point of contact for the Long Center for the Performing Arts (Long Center). Communicate schedules, complete advance paperwork, manage work to be done within confines of Long Center/ASO agreement and maintain key relationships with hall.
• Review artist riders and advance shows with regard to production needs, secure backline instruments and show equipment and communicate needs to Long Center personnel and Director of Operations and Orchestra Personnel.
• Manage production service providers and maintain vendor records for sound and lighting companies, staging companies, mechanical/electrical companies, and supertitle providers as necessary.
• Serve as stage manager for load-in/out and performances. Hire stage crew, and build and submit stagehand payroll. Maintain work records.
• Develop, control, and forecast annual operating and capital budgets relative to concert and percussion expenditures and concert production. Prepare and maintain invoice tracking spreadsheets.
• Establish and coordinate keyboard tuning. Maintain ongoing communication with piano technicians regarding maintenance of the piano and requests.
• Supervise the use, cartage and scheduled maintenance of orchestra-owned instruments; procure keyboard and backline instruments and equipment when necessary.
• Participate in the planning of operational aspects of concerts, run-outs, and special projects.
• Oversee and coordinate scheduling and production details, including stage, lighting, sound and musician instrument requirements of concert and media activities; ensure that communication of scheduling changes and other operational issues occurs between necessary departments.
• Support educational and development chamber ensemble performances with production support, including sound and mics.

• Superior knowledge of stagecraft and operations of theatrical presentations, including sound, lights, and video, and of producing concerts in a variety of venues, e.g. concert halls, arenas, ballrooms, outdoors etc. Familiarity and ease working with production/technical personnel.
• Knowledge of computer spreadsheet and database programs. Office uses Windows.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to react productively to changing priorities and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Office hours are 9am – 5pm, with flexible schedule to balance with evening and weekend rehearsals and concerts.
• Ability to work well with guest artists and their managers, orchestra musicians, concert hall production staff.
• Experience with recordings preferred.
• Patience, flexibility, energy, poise, and a sense of humor. A team player.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Stage crew report to this position.

TRAVEL
Will be present at ASO performances and activities throughout our community spanning Austin and Central Texas. Currently, these include Chamber Music Concerts, High School Concerts, Community Engagement performances and ASO Fundraising Gala.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a professional, non-smoking office environment and at the Long Center and various performance venues, which at times can be a busy with moderate to higher level of noise and unscheduled interruptions. Routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers and peripherals, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. There are also occasional outdoor concerts, including the Hartman Concerts in the Park and the H-E-B Austin Symphony July 4^th Concert & Fireworks, with exposure to weather.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Prolonged physical activity with climbing stairs and fly rails, reaching and setting equipment, and lifting heavy objects.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, finger dexterity and repetitive hand motions for manual manipulation of a keyboard, mouse or phone system.
• Must be able to read, write and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas and have the ability to understand, remember and communicate routine, factual information.
• Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
