To see that construction and maintenance programs are carried out so that lines are constructed safely and according to specifications and to provide supervision which will encourage the members of the crew to work safely, effectively and efficiently.
Participates as a working crew chief in the areas of line construction and maintenance.
Always safety conscious and proficient in first aid including artificial respiration and pole top resuscitation.
Sees that assigned crew or crews at all times abide by the safety rules set up by Blue Grass Energy.
Performs on-call duty as scheduled and trouble shoots.
Plans day to day work schedules for assigned crew or crews after receiving work orders.
Directs and performs all types of conversion, switching and fusing.
Directs the installation of transformer banks, automatic boosters and breakers.
Directs and assists the cutting of right of way and trims trees when necessary.
Directs in the digging of holes, setting of anchors, alignment and framing of poles; directs and assists in the use of air-compressors and explosives.
Maintains daily time sheets of assigned crew.
Maintains daily material sheets, work records and reports of assigned crews.
Checks material for jobs scheduled.
Attends and participates in all Safety Meetings.
Directs related work requiring equal or lesser skill when assigned by the proper authority.
Performs personnel administrative functions including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations in consultation with Line Superintendent.
Follows BGEnergy Safety Manual as well as BGEnergy policies and procedures.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Must have five years experience in the Line Technician training program or equivalent line experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to effectively read and follow operations, technical and safety manuals. Ability to follow directions and work with other line technicians and warehouse personnel, as assigned. Ability to communicate with other line technicians and crew chiefs and work with co-workers to solve problems is required. Must be able to complete reports and other paperwork and should be able to perform mathematical calculations. Must be physically able to function in this position, including climbing poles. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL driver’s license. Must be certified in pole top and bucket truck rescue. Must have vision/color perception, ability to hear and reach overhead. Must be able to perform all tasks listed in the position descriptions for Apprentice Line Technician (Steps 1, 2, 3 & 4) and Line Technician.
