Center for Energy and Environment is seeking a Chief Financial Officer as we enter an exciting time of growth. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for financial leadership and business strategies of the organization, management of the finance and accounting team (currently one direct report and four indirect reports), and financial compliance with contractual, state, and federal regulations. The position has responsibility for CEE’s overall budget of $20M. The CFO is a member of CEE’s Leadership Team. The CFO, directed by the COO, the President, and the Board, generates strategies and develops policies and procedures that support the overall corporate mission and business plan. This is a key leadership role as CEE evolves and hones its business strategies to meet opportunities and complexities at federal, state, and local levels. The position provides financial leadership and business strategies to all CEE departments.

We are seeking a candidate who brings experience in financial leadership, budget management, and business development. They will possess knowledge relevant to establishing financial strategy; leading financial administration, short- and long-term planning and budgeting; establishing clear policies, procedures, and systems to improve compliance and efficiencies and monitor progress; tracking cash flow and forecasting; and engaging with the Board of Directors on audit and other financial matters. Additionally, they will be skilled in business development, supporting expansion through strategies for revenue generation and expense management, building revenue targets and billable rates, and engaging project managers in fortifying the financial health of programs and projects.
Our ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a related field, at least ten years of experience in financial leadership, proficiency as a supervisor or manager, and knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial leadership. Knowledge of federal fund compliance and experience with investing and banking relationships, including those related to lending activity, will be preferred. They will be a collaborative financial leader who can guide and motivate others to achieve good outcomes. They will use a creative and flexible approach to working with internal stakeholders while creating expectations for success throughout the organization. They will anticipate the needs of the organization and look for proactive opportunities to share their consultation and resources.
Depending on qualifications and experience, we expect the hiring range for this position will be $150-$160k.
