Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations position is for a candidate with at least three to five years of experience in independent school alumni relations, fundraising, and/or directly related experience. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
Essential Duties or Responsibilities:
Have or quickly develop a working knowledge of The Haverford School and Palmer House (Development Office) initiatives in general, and funding priorities specifically, to articulate a compelling case for support to all constituents. Experience working with Senior Systems or similar CRM database system.
Work closely with the Director of Alumni Relations to help manage all alumni programs including working with the Alumni Executive Council and other committees. Help execute a comprehensive annual schedule of programs, events, and fundraising initiatives including The Haverford Fund.
Coordinate the Alumni Networking Community and Platform (Graduway) and alumni social media accounts. Work closely with the Alumni Director to continue to increase the number of alumni registering for Graduway. Work closely with the Alumni Director and the Marketing & Communications team to show the impact of engaging and giving and to ensure visibility of The Haverford Fund on our social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Volunteer Management: Work closely with the Alumni Director and Director of The Haverford Fund to develop and implement giving strategies and outreach for all alumni. Coordinate and increase engagement and philanthropy from the Young Alumni Committee, the BIPOC Alumni Committee, assist with class agents and reunion volunteers for all reunions with an emphasis on the 15th Reunion and younger to increase attendence, donors and donations to The Haverford Fund; work with Graduway and GiveCampus and the volunteer portal to ensure updates about volunteer activity are recorded and that alumni volunteers are trained to use the application.
Reunions: Assist with all reunions and help coordinate the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th reunion classes to increase giving and attendance at the events working closely with the Alumni Director, Development Office Manager & Events Coordinator and Marketing & Communications team to promote reunion event information to alumni.
Young Alumni Cultivation and Giving: Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors to The Haverford Fund with an eye to strengthening ties to Haverford and the goal of increasing overall participation and dollars raised; increase the number of young alumni donors and leadership donors; raise visibility of the Young Alumni Society and the Maroon & Gold Society (leadership giving); maintain an active portfolio of approximately 25 to 35 donors to cultivate, solicit and steward to build a pipeline to leadership giving.
Alumni Participation: Work with the Alumni Director and Director of The Haverford Fund and Palmer House staff and volunteers to increase the participation of all alumni in The Haverford Fund (first) and all other funds of interest; broaden the base of annual support, leverage events and social media and other strategies to encourage alumni participation.
Young Alumni Events: Work closely with the Alumni Director, Palmer House staff and with support from the Development Office Manager & Events Coordinator, to plan and implement local and regional annual events for young alumni including college age alumni and networking events for young alumni; create opportunities for alumni to return to campus.
Student Programs: Work with the Alumni Director to increase the visibility of the Alumni Office and Palmer House and The Haverford Fund on campus; assist with student programs and help to further Haverford’s culture of philanthropy, including engagement of III, IV, V and VI Form students culminating with the solicitation of the VI Form students as they become alumni.
Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the implementation of
those principles in independent schools.
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned; some travel required.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined education and experience
Excellent organization skills and ability to organize others/predict needs of development staff
Outstanding communication skills and expertise in social media
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals, volunteers, alumni, and students of all ages and gift levels
High energy level and proactive approach to work
Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
Strong computer literacy using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and mail merges; email and web searches as well as familiarity with data entry, data retrieval, and relational database software
Experience with Senior Systems or other database software
Appreciation of single-sex independent school education
Proven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Generally works in standard office conditions and climate
May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during special activities and fundraising events
Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
