Green Hedges School seeks an experienced Visual Arts Teacher for the Spring of 2023 (start date February 27 - end of the school year) for its Lower School and Middle School divisions. Green Hedges is a private independent preschool through Grade 8 school with approximately 185 students in Vienna, Virginia, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC.
Green Hedges School includes three divisions:
Preschool: Ages 2 through 5, Montessori philosophy
Lower School: Grades 1 through 5, traditional
Middle School: Grades 6 through 8, traditional
Requirements A successful candidate for the Visual Arts Teacher position will have: Undergraduate degree (master’s preferred) in art education or a related field • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of teaching • Experience in the design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum for visual arts • Proficient knowledge of the academic and social-emotional development of young children • A high level of energy • Good time management skills • Initiative • Collaborative skills • Creativity • Strong communication skills
The Visual Arts Teacher guides all facets of visual arts education. Primary tasks include preparing and supporting children with lessons, implementing curriculum, developing and implementing class routines, engaging in ongoing assessment of the children, and communicating student performance with parents, administrators, and other faculty. Furthermore, the Visual Arts Teacher must:
Adhere to the School’s Mission and Core Values.
Support the developmental needs of students.
Create positive learning communities within the classroom that acknowledge and respect children’s social and emotional interactions and growth.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure optimal learning for all students.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop the ideal learning environment for each child.
Work cooperatively with all classroom and special teachers to create interdisciplinary projects.
Maintain displays of student artwork on and off campus.
Support the drama program by assisting with the creation of scenery and props.
Work diligently and promptly to maintain positive and constructive home-school communication.
Attend school events.
Perform professional duties efficiently, manage resources effectively and meet deadlines and meeting schedules set by the School.
Assist students in their art curriculum-related presentations at all-school assemblies.
Perform professional duties as assigned by the Head of School or the Assistant Head of School. These duties may include but are not limited to recess duty, lunch duty, and dismissal duty.
