Nestled in the rugged country of northeastern Oregon along the beautiful Columbia River, the City of Boardman is a vibrant town thriving on community connections and rural charm. The largest city in Morrow County, Boardman is home to approximately 4,580 people and is known for its mix of agriculture, high-tech data centers, food processing, livestock ventures, and recreation opportunities.
The City of Boardman is seeking a skilled and visionary servant leader ready to invest in a small community poised for great things. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of planning, land use, development, economic investment tools, construction, environmental issues, government finance, and the various legislation that impacts cities as well as an understanding of intergovernmental relationships and their importance. They will also have experience blending traditional, small-town culture with new growth and energy, balancing the importance of legacy with a fresh perspective and new ideas. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable.
This position would be an excellent fit for those with an appreciation for the outdoors — whether that’s hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, or other activities — and respect for the community’s agricultural roots. Boardman’s leaders are honest and accessible, and they earn residents’ respect by engaging all community members. City Council wants to see a new manager willing to put down roots and commit to Boardman long term, guiding the community through anticipated growth. Unimpeachable ethics, transparency, and integrity are a must.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration or a closely related field, with a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should also have at least five years of progressively responsible and executive administrative experience, with preferred experience as a city manager or administrator. A valid driver’s license is also required, and candidates must be bondable and able to pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, driving record, and credit history. Any equivalent combination of education, professional licenses/certifications, and experience may be considered.
The City of Boardman is offering a salary range of $135,000 to $150,000 for this position, which is negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
