The Town School is a 110 year-old coeducational Nursery through 8th Grade school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We now seek a new seventh and eighth grade English and History Teacher, effective September 2023. The new appointee will build on our school’s curricular and teaching excellence and collaborate with us on future possibilities. The salary range for this position is $64,000 - $115,000.*
Teaching two sections of Seventh grade History (examining the Age of Discovery and Enlightenment, from a Global perspective) and two sections of Eighth grade English (emphasizing literary analysis and expository and persuasive writing, drawing from an inclusive range of literature)
Co-leading a Homeroom and serving as an advisor to a group of students in one of the grades
Working collaboratively and professionally with subject-area, grade-level, divisional, and school-wide colleagues for curriculum planning, student support, and mentoring
Actively partnering with parents and the Upper School Student Support Team to closely monitor and support students’ progress
Differentiating instruction to attend to the needs of individual students
Communicating effectively with colleagues, parents, and administration
Serving as a full community member by attending meetings, participating in committees, and volunteering for various duties to supervise students
Contributing constructively to all faculty discussions and continue to grow professionally (i.e. conferences, in-service training, current literature)

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree
Teaching experience in a middle school setting preferred
Experience incorporating technology in support of student learning
