ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment is a highly regarded national membership association, known for serving as the leading voice advancing sustainable investing across all asset classes. US SIF's membership includes more than 200 investment practitioners and institutions, including investment management and advisory firms, mutual fund companies, asset owners, data and research firms, financial planners and advisors, broker- dealers, banks, credit unions, community development financial institutions and non-profit associations.
Since its founding, US SIF has worked in partnership with its members to advance the field of sustainable investing through research, education and training, a national conference and other convenings, as well as engagement with policymakers and media. The years of tireless of dedication and work have resulted in greater interest in sustainable investment than ever before. Climate change, social and economic inequality, gender and racial diversity, human rights, loss of biodiversity, and political spending are all urgent issues for sustainable investors. Increasingly, individual retail investors are joining institutional investors to use their assets to achieve better environmental, social and governance outcomes. US SIF is supported in its work by the US SIF Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that undertakes educational, research and programmatic activities to advance the mission of US SIF.

Public Policy: As the preeminent voice for advancing sustainable investing, US SIF educates policymakers about the field and promotes its public policy priorities to Congress, the White House and to regulatory agencies, particularly the Department of Labor and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Thought Leadership: US SIF works to increase public awareness of and demand for sustainable investing through engagement with and education of the media and through speaking at key investor events.
Professional Development & Networking: US SIF provides members with unparalleled access to cutting edge professional development through webinars and other programs, as well as providing opportunities for the sustainable investing community to convene at our annual national conference and at other events.
Education: US SIF offers education and training through online, live virtual and in-person courses for financial professionals and retail investors. We also offer, in collaboration with the College for Financial Planning, the only sustainable investment designation in the United States.

US SIF is a founding member of the Global Sustainable Investment Alliance (GSIA). Using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines, our Annual Financial and Sustainability Reports provide an overview of the programs and accomplishments of US SIF and the US SIF Foundation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES US SIF seeks a strategic, visionary, and transformative leader who will serve as the sustainable investment industry’s leader and primary advocate, amplifying the mission and impact of the organization to myriad external audiences. Partnering with the Board of Directors and professional staff, the CEO will build upon the organization’s successes and take advantage of opportunities to further the organization’s impact and reach. The CEO will advance the organization’s mission, influencing investors, policy makers, and the marketplace as sustainability permeates investment practices, regulation and government policy.
The CEO will oversee all aspects of the organization, including board relations, strategic planning and execution, staff leadership, membership growth and revenue diversification. US SIF has a $2M annual budget with a staff of 9 professionals. Specific responsibilities include the following:
Formulates and implements a fresh and progressive strategic plan that identifies key priorities to ensure US SIF creates immediate and long-term impact while ensuring continued growth.
Develops comprehensive annual operating plans aligned to the strategic plan to ensure that the budget, staff, and program priorities continue to advance the core mission of the organization.
Ensures that the organization’s short and long-term strategic plans are nimble to address the changing dynamics and policies around sustainable investing practices.
Organizational Governance and Board Management:
Builds and maintains a trusting, collaborative, and transparent relationship with the Board of Directors, staff and members.
Provides regular updates and feedback related to the strategic, operational, and programmatic matters impacting the organization, keeping the board apprised of progress and challenges in meeting key goals and milestones.
Fosters a positive work environment for staff by building and sustaining a culture of inclusion, diversity, transparency, and innovation. Provides a team-oriented and motivational leadership style that enhances the effectiveness of the staff.
Recruits, develops, inspires, and engages staff to lead and administer the organization’s programs and services in support of the strategic plan and operational objectives.
Leverages performance management processes for consistently evaluating and developing staff on an annual basis to ensure accountability, results and professional growth.
Identifies and prioritizes critical public policy issues and positions impacting the sustainable investment Anticipates how political, social, and economic issues will impact the success of members and the broader industry.
Develops, maintains, and strengthens relationships with government officials at the federal level to advance policy priorities.
Provides members with the tools to be able to engage with policymakers.
External Relations and Communications:
Serves as a key spokesperson and passionate advocate for the organization’s mission and priorities before myriad audiences including the media, peer associations, and other external stakeholders.
Implements strategies to respond to critiques of the field.
Member Development, Revenue Generation and Program Delivery:
Oversees all aspects of US SIF’s programs, research, events, thought leadership and other member services.
Develops innovative programs and identifies new opportunities to increase member engagement while also driving US SIF’s long-term financial growth and stability by attracting new audiences and partners to the organization.
Plays a critical role in establishing fundraising and funding strategies that target and engage key stakeholders including corporate sponsors, foundations, grant making organizations, and others.
Develops and presents strategies for new lines of non-dues revenue, and with board approval, implements these strategies to grow the financial position of the organization.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the organization’s mission and possess the relevant experience, background, and leadership competencies to enhance the organization’s profile and further its impact. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 years of executive level leadership experience with an organization of similar scale and complexity.
Specific experience and qualifications will include the following:

Experience in building a strong fundraising and partnership strategy that ensures a continuous pipeline of funds to support the organization’s operations and expansion strategy; ability to raise funds and/or secure resources to support programmatic needs including cutting edge research and key industry conferences and events.
Possesses political savvy and diplomatic Understands the legislative and regulatory issues facing the sustainable investment industry.
An ability to raise the visibility of US SIF’s mission among targeted audiences and forge strategic partnerships and coalitions with organizations that share common objectives.
Experienced staff leader, with demonstrated track record for attracting, developing, and inspiring strong talent and building and managing a high-performing team in a results- oriented, fast-paced An inclusive leader who engages with staff at all levels of the organization and provides opportunities for growth and career development.
Entrepreneurial mindset. Constantly evaluating the industry’s needs, emerging risks and gaps and developing ideas for solutions that US SIF can provide to bring greater value to its membership while building a sustainable business model including dues and non- dues related income. Must have strong business acumen and be a good manager of assets with demonstrated ability to drive a positive bottom line.
