Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA) has been exclusively retained by Conservation Law Foundation (“CLF”) to conduct a search for a Senior Vice President of Law & Policy (“SVP”). Conservation Law Foundation is an equal opportunity employer.
Senior Vice President of Law & Policy
Organization: Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) protects New England’s environment for the benefit of all people. A nonprofit, member-supported organization, CLF uses the law, science, and the market to solve the region’s most challenging environmental problems from climate change to ocean conservation to transportation. Every day, CLF advocates stand up for New Englanders – in state houses, court houses and board rooms, regulatory hearings and community gatherings – to forge innovative paths to environmental progress and economic prosperity for all in its region. To that end, CLF works with communities of color, and also communities that are economically or otherwise disadvantaged, which often suffer disproportionately the impacts of environmental degradation. CLF is committed to representing New England’s diversity in its staff, volunteers, boards, and membership and creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture where all can thrive. People of color are encouraged to apply.
Position Overview: Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a passionate and mission driven Senior Vice President (SVP) of Law and Policy to join its team working to protect New England’s environment for all people. The SVP is responsible for providing executive level direction and management oversight of CLF’s programs, and to advance CLF’s strategic objectives for climate, conservation, communities and change leadership across New England. The SVP will be responsible, as a thought partner and collaborative visionary, for shaping, managing, and driving policy and strategy for the organization. They must be deeply committed to social and environmental justice issues as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion and will serve as a member of the president’s executive council and manage a team of six vice presidents as direct reports.
Position Management: The SVP will report to CLF President Bradley Campbell. Brad has been at the forefront of shaping the country’s most significant environmental policies and laws for over 30 years. A former White House senior appointee during the Clinton administration, Brad has a wide range of experience overseeing large public agencies, developing strategic litigation, and negotiating innovative agreements that have resulted in environmental milestones across the United States. Brad has overseen numerous successes in the court rooms and state houses of New England where CLF has taken on Exxon, Shell, and Gulf Oil and has also succeeded in passing enforceable new climate laws. Brad has doubled CLF’s staff of lawyers, scientists, urban planners and policy advocates since he took over as President and is looking to add a strong alter ego on policy and law to be a partner in policy creation and advocacy and a surrogate voice for the organization, both internally and to the public at large.
Experience: A minimum of eight to ten years of legal experience in a relevant field. Executive or leadership experience overseeing programs and/or litigation encompassing environmental, public health, and/or energy law and a strong background in policy development and advocacy.
Compensation: CLF offers a competitive salary, an extensive benefits plan, and an open, inclusive and accepting work environment where differences are highly respected.
Location: The SVP will be based in the Boston office, with some opportunity for remote work.
