Purpose of Job:
Creative, energetic and innovative leader to serve as our Vice President Member Services and Strategic Electrification and in Glen Allen, VA. This leader will direct ODEC’s efforts to develop beneficial electrification, energy efficiency, demand response, and related programs in coordination with ODEC’s 11 member distribution cooperatives. This position is heavily focused on serving ODEC’s members and requires frequent in-person and virtual meetings with ODEC members and other external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of transportation electrification, space and water heating electrification, energy efficiency and demand response programs, and the role that other distributed energy resources play in the evolving electric utility industry.
Essential responsibilities include:
Lead ODEC’s efforts to develop and implement strategic electrification initiatives.
Lead ODEC’s efforts to develop and implement demand response, energy efficiency, and other DER programs for and with its members.
Actively engage with ODEC members, other cooperatives across the country, and external stakeholders.
Lead efforts to provide several retail-focused services to ODEC’s members, including coordinating ODEC’s support for its members when they are working with their member-owners who are seeking to use third-party wholesale suppliers under retail choice regulations.
Recruit, hire, train, appraise, mentor, retain, and lead staff members. Provide mentoring and coaching to department staff.
Work Experience:
Minimum 10 years’ experience in electric utility industry required
Minimum 5 years’ experience in utility demand response, energy efficiencies and strategic electrification program design and deployment required
5 years of supervisory experience strongly preferred
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires strong people, program, vendor, and budget management skills
Effective written and oral communications skills to all levels of the organization and external groups such as member cooperatives and Board members and includes communication to individuals, small groups and large groups
In-depth understanding of the electric utility industry
Ability to interact effectively and coordinate closely with multiple ODEC business units including Power Supply, Communications, and External Affairs
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Experience in the PJM wholesale market strongly preferred
Education:
College Degree in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline
Travel details: Frequent monthly day trips and occasional overnight travel required in this position
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor the majority of the day to include working on a laptop and smartphone
Interact effectively with others through verbal communication, video, email and text
Work full days (8 hours) in an office environment with occasional evening and weekend work
Conduct frequent monthly travel via automobile to member cooperative sites which may entail some overnight travel. Commercial airline for occasional conferences/meetings.
Comfortably and effective present to small as well as large groups (30 – hundreds of individuals)
