Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, Basin Electric Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative that provides wholesale power supply and transmission service to 131 rural electric cooperatives across nine states. Basin Electric owns over 2,537 miles of high-voltage transmission facilities, and operates 5,222 megawatts (MW) of generating resources, comprised of coal, gas, oil, renewable, and distributed energy. Basin Electric also operates the following for-profit subsidiaries: Dakota Gasification Company, Souris Valley Pipeline, Dakota Coal Company, and Montana Limestone Company. Our largest subsidiary, Dakota Gasification Company converts lignite coal through the gasification process into 13 value added products. This includes one of the largest carbon dioxide sequestration projects in the world. Dakota Coal controls rights to lignite reserves in North Dakota and provides financing for the Freedom Mine north of Beulah,
North Dakota. Montana Limestone Company, is a subsidiary of Dakota Coal and operates a limestone quarry 70 miles south of Billings.
Basin Electric seeks a Senior Vice President & Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to oversee a broad range of technologies, including the information technology and security and compliance divisions. The CTO works with the CEO and General Manager to make all executive decisions with regard to the technology interests of Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC). The incumbent is responsible for outlining the cooperative’s technological vision, implementing technology strategies, and ensuring technology resources are aligned with business needs to support our members
The Successful Candidate
Basin Electric requires a seasoned and accomplished leader, manager, and team player with a strong information systems management and information technology background and an understanding of the physical and cyber security requirements as the pertain to Basin Electric.
The incumbent must have an understanding of applicable industry compliance standards, and excellent interpersonal skills and supervisory experience. The incumbent must have leadership skills to provide direction to the management and professional staff within the organization, and the ability to develop consensus within an organizational climate of diverse operational activities.
Fully qualified candidates will possess at least a four year degree in Information Systems or related degree and ten years of security, compliance, engineering or IT experience. The incumbent must have an understanding of applicable industry compliance standards, and excellent interpersonal skills and supervisory experience. The incumbent must have leadership skills to provide direction to the management and professional staff within the organization, and the ability to develop consensus within an organizational climate of diverse operational activities. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the organization, including briefing senior management and governance Board committees on status of sensitive issues. The ability to manage and interpret data for the organization will be key for the successful applicant.
Compensation, Benefits and Relocation
Basin Electric offers a competitive total compensation and benefits package, which will be commensurate with candidates’ qualifications and experience. The employees of Basin Electric participate in a 401(k) defined contribution retirement plan. Basin Electric matches 3% for every 1% of employee contributions up to 15%. Relocation assistance will be negotiated and deferred compensation may be considered.
