The Energy Markets Analyst role sits within the Business Development and Asset Management team, whose overall goal is to increase the value of Eagle Creek’s existing fleet of operating hydropower facilities and to lead expansion of the company through acquisition of more hydropower plants and other renewable energy capacity. The Energy Markets Analyst will work closely with the Manager of Generation and Market Analysis as well as the Operations team at ECRE’s generating facilities to manage interaction between ECRE’s facilities and the ISO/RTOs.
The role will ideally be based in ECRE’s office outside Washington D.C. in Bethesda, MD (immediately metro-accessible). ECRE currently works on a hybrid work schedule in the office Monday through Wednesday and remotely as desired on Thursday and Friday. Fully-remote candidates with strong profiles will be considered, with a strong preference for those well-positioned to travel to ECRE’s offices on at least a quarterly basis.
Job Functions
Execute market offer strategies for a portfolio of generating assets in organized ISO/RTO markets (DA/RT bids)
Serve as a point of contact for plant operations and the ISO/RTO to communicate and coordinate operational and market conditions.
Work as a team member within the Asset Management group to explain commercial results to management.
Specific functions may include:
Coordination of generation availability with operations
Daily submission of offers into day-ahead and/or real-time markets
Scheduling/coordination of outages with ISO/RTO
Communication of market results to operations and finance teams
Capacity market deadline tracking and data/offer submissions
Receipt of data requests and inquiries from ISO/RTO and coordination of response with internal teams
Other related job duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field
Minimum of one year of experience interacting with organized power markets (preferably 2 or more)
Strong interest in continuing to develop skills in market operations and RTO/ISO interaction
Desired Knowledge and Skills
Additional years of experience with organized power markets
Working knowledge of the functioning of power plants and AC power systems
Background in renewable energy, especially hydropower
Basic understanding of principles of economics including supply and demand curves
Background in bidding strategy, energy trading and hedging
Knowledge of advanced Excel skills including external data queries and Visual Basic
Self-motivation, a habit of taking initiative, and a desire to learn
Eagle Creek Renewable Energy was founded in 2010 to acquire, enhance and operate small hydroelectric power facilities. Eagle Creeks’ facilities provide clean energy to electricity consumers in North America while allowing recreational opportunities and protecting historical resources and the environment. Eagle Creek currently owns and operates eighty-six hydroelectric facilities representing approximately 640 megawatts of capacity across the United States. Eagle Creek also has ownership interests equivalent to approximately 12 megawatts in fourteen other hydroelectric facilities and two solar facilities in New England.
