Summertime at Germantown Friends School invites kids of all ages to explore their gifts, skills, and talents in a safe and fun environment. The Summer Camps team is seeking an experienced Day Camp Coordinator to support GFS’ 6-week Summer Camp for children ages 3 - 12 (rising Preschool - 6th Grade), which runs June 12-July 21.
The Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Explorer Day Camp program on GFS’ Main Campus, which entails up to 10 hours per week (Monday - Friday) from May 15 through June 9, and 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday) from June 12 through July 21. The Coordinator helps to facilitate a half-day counselor orientation for the Explorer Camp Team and prepares, trains, supervises, and mentors summer camp counselors and junior counselors who are integral to the success of the camp.
Responsibilities
Pre-Summer Planning & Orientation (May 15- June 9)
Collaborate with Summer Camp Director on the creation of Explorer Camp schedule and curriculum, ensuring programming is in line with our vision of campers “being confident in their contributions to the world because they’ve explored what’s possible.”
Support Summer Camp Director in ensuring spaces are available and ready for Explorer Camp’s 6-week schedule.
Order supplies & update inventory tracking for Day Camp weeks.
Facilitate a half-day orientation for Explorer Camp counselors in collaboration with Summer Camp Director.
Summer Program (June 12-July 21)
Oversee the execution of the daily schedule for 6-week camp.
Support Summer Camp Director by overseeing all logistics of the camp day, including arrival and dismissal, communication with parents, and coordination of community partners & field trips.
Lead weekly staff meetings for Explorer Camp team at the beginning of each week.
Facilitate (or delegate) daily Morning Meetings as part of Explorer Day Camp.
Send out weekly communication to parents regarding each camp week.
Communicate with Summer Camps Director at the end of each camp day to relay any challenges or problems that occurred.
Ensure that counselors adhere to guidelines outlined in Summertime at GFS Staff Handbook.
Engage fully in Summertime at GFS, sharing your passion for teaching, learning, and leading.
Delegate the organizing and storing of camp materials to counselors at the end of each week.
Document and inventory all camp supplies used as a part of Explorer Day Camp.
Provide comprehensive notes and lessons learned to Summer Camp Director at the conclusion of camp.
Team Management
Approve Explorer Jr. Counselors’ timecards in PayChex.
Provide Counselors and Jr. Counselors with written/verbal feedback on daily implementation and engagement with campers.
Use Remind to communicate updates and important information with team.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years or older to apply.
Must have (or be willing to obtain) PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance, and PA Criminal Background Check.
Must be CPR/First Aid Certified.
5+ years of experience working with elementary-aged children preferred
Experience in summer camp or other outside-of-school settings preferred.
Highly organized
Ability to organize time, space, materials, and groups.
Excel proficiency and familiarity with Google Drive preferred.
Ability to deliver written and verbal feedback.
Ability to work with adults and children from diverse cultural and economic background.
Excellent communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work in mentorship relationships.
Creativity, energy, and ability to exercise agility in educational environments.

Camp Days: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Holidays:
Independence Day – July 3 and 4 Juneteenth - June 19
