Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, teaches at least four sections of performing arts (theater, musical theater, acting, theater tech) or some combination as assigned. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other member of the faculty and staff. Serves as an Upper School advisor and actively participates in the life of the school outside of classroom teaching responsibilities.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaches four classes or the equivalent per semester, as assigned, according to the needs of the school
Serves as Theater Manager, including the following duties:
Schedules use of theater for all University Prep users
Holds set of master keys; secures theater and scene shop space, making certain users are aware of inherent dangers involved using various equipment
Creates and enforces rules and regulations for equipment and general theater use
Maintains lighting instruments and lighting systems, rigging lines and systems, draperies and sound equipment and systems
Keeps an inventory of, and oversees use of, all theatrical equipment
Trains and supervises technical crews in, and not in, Stagecraft classes
Sets up and supervises set-up of equipment for assemblies, meetings, and school functions, including, but not limited to, Eighth Grade Moving Up Ceremony, Baccalaureate, etc.
Creates and maintains budget for theater equipment replacement and maintenance
Oversees, staffs, and is compensated for rental of facility to non-University Prep organizations
Advises a group of 10 – 12 students
Actively participates in the life of the school outside the classroom
Vigorously engages in their own professional development
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Music, Fine Arts, or a related field from a four-year college or university required
Master's degree in a related field or education strongly preferred
3 to 5 years of successful teaching experience in a secondary school environment preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Competence in the content area and pedagogy for secondary school
Demonstrated experience directing theater and musical theater productions
Experience with operating Audio and Visual equipment
Good understanding of the developmental needs of secondary school students
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
Energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to create an active learning environment that supports understanding, passion and creativity in students
Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs and accommodations
Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
Deep interest in being part of a community as a colleague and grade-level team member
Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular team preferred
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
A working understanding of UDL, UbD, and Grading for Equity concepts
Ability to maintain confidential information
Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor

Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technologies
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary is $52,578 to $101,811 based on education and years of experience.
