Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks a driven, passionate, genuine Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School who will work closely with the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School to lead the AOS early childhood and lower school divisions. The Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School is embedded in the life of the school, helping to drive the faculty and student experience from both an academic and a social perspective. The perfect candidate will be highly collaborative and exhibit strong interpersonal skills. The Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School takes on responsibilities as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the early childhood and lower school and to foster a positive school experience for every student.

Reports to: Head of Early Childhood and Lower School
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Start Date:July 1, 2023
Work Schedule: Year-round, Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; additional time as needed for after-school meetings and events.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership:
Assist the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School with the management and development of the division’s instructional faculty and support staff
Partner with AOS content coordinators to:
Lead teachers toward continued instructional development through the establishment of professional goals aligned to specific learning opportunities
Focus on pedagogical learning and development
Observe teachers on a regular basis and offer feedback
Mentor new faculty members as they adjust to the AOS teaching environment
Support the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School in the evaluation of faculty
Campus Culture:
Increase student accountability through the development and enforcement of Capturing Kids’ Hearts for student discipline
Develop and coordinate student leadership opportunities within the lower school, including student council
Partner closely with families to establish a strong school-home bond through regular communication, and intentional relationship-building
Support classroom culture and effective instruction by providing student discipline with thoughtful correspondence, record-keeping, and follow-through when escalated or persistent misbehaviors occur
Other Responsibilities:
Actively engage in school-wide strategic decision-making as a member of the school’s administrative team
Foster a collegial relationship with and among faculty and staff
Perform day-to-day administrative and operational tasks as needed
Participate in and supervise early childhood and lower school special events
Assist in the recruitment and selection of new staff and faculty
Support the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School in creating the daily class schedule for early childhood and lower school students
Assist the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School in reviewing and editing report card format and comments
Assist the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School in supervising, planning, and budgeting all field trips and special programs at each grade level, including chaperoning as needed
Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Early Childhood and Lower School and the Head of School
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 5 years classroom teaching experience
Previous leadership experience
Knowledge of and commitment to diversity and inclusion practices
Strong communication skills; willingness to engage in difficult conversations with candor and tact
Collaborative and relational style built on active solicitation of input, excellent listening skills, and a commitment to building consensus
Nuanced understanding of best practices in student-centered pedagogy and curriculum design
Demonstrated knowledge of and love for working with early childhood and lower school students with great energy, playfulness, and understanding
Joyful sense of humor
