The Berkeley Carroll School is seeking a Camp Director for its children’s summer camp in 2023. The camp is for students entering PreK - 3rd grade.
Dates: June 19 - August 11, 2023; directors will also need to complete some pre-program administrative work / training starting in May.
Hours:
M - F: 8:00am - 5:00pm
General Responsibilities:
The Camp Director leads all aspects of Children’s Day Camp operations and ensures the camp achieves both programmatic and financial objectives set forth by the School. The Camp Director is expected to be on Campus during all operating hours of summer camp programs, and to assist with minor program preparations starting in late spring.
Specific Responsibilities:
Run daily operations of camp, creating a high-energy, fun, and creative experience for campers.
Provide leadership for effective staff and camper organization throughout the camp program.
Develop positive relationships with campers, staff and parents.
Participate in camp activities to the extent necessary for proper awareness and supervisory functioning.
Establish procedures, routines and practices for camp operations that are in compliance with the New York City Department of Health.
Ensure that risk prevention and crisis management plans are developed and implemented.
Manage all communications with campers, families, school leaders, and camp staff.
Understand the budget and business operations of camp in correlation with Berkeley Carroll’s Auxiliary Programs Team

three summer-seasons of camp experience or equivalent
one year of experience as a head or associate classroom teacher at an elementary school PLUS one summer-season of camp experience or equivalent
one year of experience working with elementary school children in an after school program or similar educational setting PLUS one summer-season of camp experience
Must be available to work the full camp program
Must possess Advanced CPR and Advanced first-aid certifications by the start of the camp program
Must attend Camp Director Orientation provided by the NYC Department of Health
