School Counselor
Maryvale Preparatory School is seeking a School Counselor (Grades 6-9) for the 2023-2024 school year. This is an exempt, full-time, 10-month position. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in counseling with experience. This position will report directly to the Director of Counseling & Division Heads.
Responsibilities include:
Individual, school, and family crisis prevention and intervention, as well as referring to outside professional help if needed
Individually counseling students in areas related to coping strategies, social skills, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution
Academically supporting students with executive functioning skills, study skills, goal setting, and time management
Supervising standardized testing programs and administration
Overseeing Advisory programming and curriculum for Middle School in conjunction with the Advisory Committee.
Collaborating with academic administration to provide a vibrant, safe, and excellent learning environment to deliver the mission of Maryvale Preparatory School
Fulfilling responsibilities consistent with ethical and legal guidelines related to school counseling, including maintaining confidentiality and appropriate records
Planning and executing comprehensive, developmentally appropriate wellness programming and curriculum for all students
Teaching Middle School Leadership
Participating in the school community with other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess:
A Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work; MSDE certification or state licensure preferred.
Experience as a counselor in an independent school setting preferred
A willingness to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, and parents
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an attention to details
Experience with academic and personal counseling,
Experience and/or understanding of standardized testing (MAP, PSAT, and other College Board related assessments)
The ability to work confidentially as a consultant to staff and parents to maximize students' potential and achievement while fostering the independence and self-expression required for lifelong learning
