Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, and on a long-term substitute basis for the 23-24 academic year, teaches Middle and Upper Level Mandarin Chinese courses.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaches four sections of Middle and/or Upper level Mandarin Chinese courses
Provides classroom instruction and management
Serves as an advisor to approximately 10 Middle or Upper School students
Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents, and administrators as appropriate
Actively participates in the life of the school
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all the school’s constituencies
Vigorously engages in their own professional development
Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Mandarin Chinese language or studies required
Master’s degree preferred
5+ years’ teaching experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Fluency in both written and spoken Mandarin and English required
Flexibility, energy, enthusiasm, and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
Commitment to teaching the whole child
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of the developmental needs of both Upper and Middle School-aged students
A working understanding of Universal Design for Learning, Understanding by Design, and Grading for Equity concepts
Ability to maintain confidential information
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Comfort with operating Audio/Visual equipment
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary is $57,643 - $104,801 based on education and years of experience.
