Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, teaches middle school grade physical education and health. Serves on the Middle School curricular team and as a Middle School advisor. Teaches additional elective courses in PE as appropriate.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaches four sections of physical education and health
Serves as an advisor to 10-12 Middle School students
Actively participates in the life of the school outside of the classroom through coaching, advising a club, or leading an outdoor trip
Uses formative teaching and assessment methods
Participates on a grade-level curricular team
Vigorously engages in their own professional development
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all the school’s constituencies
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in physical education with strong coursework in health from a four-year college or university preferred
Teaching certification preferred
Recent successful PE and Health teaching experience in a Middle School environment preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated competence in the content area and pedagogy for Middle School
Good understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School students
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
Sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to work in variety of environments including outdoor spaces, classrooms and gymnasium
Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs and accommodations
Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
Deep interest in being part of a community as a colleague and grade-level team member
Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular team preferred
Educational leadership experience (team leader, department head, grade-level coordinator) preferred
Coaching, outdoor or club advising experience preferred
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
A working understanding of Universal Design for Learning, University by Design, and Grading for Equity concepts
Ability to maintain confidential information
Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment

Salary is $57,643 - $104,801 based on education and years of experience.
