Germantown Friends School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time teacher in the Modern Language department spanning both the Upper School and Middle School divisions. The ideal candidate has a strong competency in the Spanish language, effective written and spoken communication skills, and the energy and interest to contribute to the school community in a variety of areas. Collaboration with colleagues and the ability to design a Spanish language-based curriculum in conjunction with the textbook series are key elements to this position. The candidate has experience in the Modern Language classroom, holds at least a Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a related field, and possesses a clear educational philosophy consistent with the immersion approach of the Modern Language department. Ability to teach French is a plus, but not required for consideration.
Flexibility to teach Levels I-V in Middle School and Upper School, collaborating regularly with colleagues on curriculum and lesson planning.
Attend all core, advisor, departmental, divisional, and all-school meetings.
Meet regularly with school leaders as requested to discuss teaching work with students as part of the evaluation process at GFS.
Write narrative assessments based on well-maintained records of student work and submit them in a timely fashion.
Organize, participate in, and facilitate student travel opportunities.
Participate in parent conferences and meetings as appropriate.
Perform other duties associated with the position such as study hall proctoring, lunch supervision, and advisory work.
Act as a homeroom advisor, meeting with students daily, acting as a mentor to students and first point of contact over student concerns.
Attend Meeting for Worship once a week.
Regularly participate in school-supported professional development in the areas of teaching content, pedagogy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Participate in the life of the GFS community through collegial behavior and involvement with committee work.
