National Cathedral School seeks an administrative assistant to the Head of Lower School (Grades 4-6) to begin July 5, 2023. The Assistant provides direct administrative and clerical support to the Head of Lower School, shares leadership for efficient and professional management of daily operations, including the hiring and onboarding of new employees, manages the Head of Lower School’s professional calendar, and assists with daily oversight of the Lower School. S/he works closely with the Head of Lower School on short-term and long-term projects, including planning events. The Assistant maintains communications with families and is often the first point of contact with teachers, families, and students.
The successful candidate for this position will have the following:
Joy in working with children and understanding and patience with 9–12-year-olds.
Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, coupled with excellent oral and written communication skills.
A high level of energy and the ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively and independently, while having the judgment to seek direction.
Comfort with technology and learning new systems or software as needed.
Ability to work successfully with children, administrators, co-workers, parents, and all stakeholders in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
The ideal candidate will be warm, energetic, well-spoken, and flexible, able to maintain calm and present well in challenging situations and have a welcoming presence that puts guests at ease when visiting.
All faculty and staff are involved in school life through various means like leading a club, coaching a sport, or serving on a committee. Also, community members attend school functions, including chapel and cathedral services, assemblies, and special events, as needed.
