The Assistant Principal models the highest standards of professional and collegial conduct, supporting the school’s Lasallian Catholic mission and philosophy. The Assistant Principal initiates and demonstrates leadership and management skills by promoting positive faculty, staff and student collaboration while fostering high expectations, excellence, creativity, and outstanding achievement throughout the areas of his/her responsibilities. As a participating member of the school’s academic administrative team, the Assistant Principal is expected to implement school policies and practices at all levels of the school’s operations. Specifically, the Assistant Principal advises the Principal and other school administrators regarding the supervision of faculty and staff, and all matters pertaining to curriculum and instruction.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
School Leadership
With the Principal, collaborates, organizes, and executes decisions made by the school's academic administrative team with integrity.
Assists in the hiring and mentoring of new staff, including faculty and staff orientation and accompaniment.
Maintains a culture of trust, responsibility, and collaboration among faculty.
Attends weekly administrative team (Ad Team) and Academic Affairs Council (AAC) meetings.
Supports the Director of Summer School Programs in coordinating curricular offerings.
Develops and maintains appropriate budgets for areas of responsibility.
Manages and creates student academic policies.
Assists Principal in recruiting, hiring, and retaining educators who embody our Lasallian core principles.
Supports school events and activities, some of which occur outside of operation school hours and weekends.
Assists the Principal in supporting the efforts of Lasallian Student Life (e.g. campus ministry, service, student government, and student activities).
Curriculum and Instruction
Evaluates teachers on their instructional practices and provides thoughtful feedback to improve student learning.
Develops and implements instructional practices with faculty to improve student achievement.
Oversees and supports curricular, instructional, pedagogical, and assessment approaches and pedagogy aligned with student mastery and Lasallian core principles.
Gathers, analyzes, and disaggregates schoolwide academic and curricular data for continual improvement.
Manages student scheduling in conjunction with the counseling team and Director of the Lasallian Education Access Program (LEAP).
Creates the master academic schedule.
Oversees faculty professional development and associated funding and licensure needs.
Assists Principal in faculty professional development, academic initiatives, and ongoing educator growth.
Academic and Behavioral Intervention
Assists students, families, and faculty to support underperforming students.
Collaborates with the Student Support Program Coordinator to support student learning and interventions for students with unique learning needs.
Assists school counselors in supporting students and families entrusted to their care.
Oversees support and intervention for at-risk or vulnerable students.
Assists the Principal in supporting the Dean’s Office.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability and desire to embrace ownership of the Lasallian Catholic mission.
Demonstrated recent and relevant expertise in curriculum and instruction.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Preference will be given to those with experience in Lasallian or Catholic high schools.
Understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents is necessary; therefore, we seek a healthy combination of positivity, flexibility, energy, creativity, and a sense of humor.
Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, inclusive community and strong cross-cultural competency skills.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
Education equivalent to a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Possession of a current California credential preferred.
Prior experience in secondary education; administrative experience at the high school level preferred.
Possesses confidence or comfort with educational technology.
Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills.
Requirements
Ordinary office environment. Lifting is minimal.
