Buxton School is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and experienced fundraising professional to oversee and manage annual fundraising and long-term stewardship of Buxton’s greater community. The Director of Development & Alumni Affairs will work closely with the leadership of the school and the board of trustees to help Buxton expand its fundraising capacity from a diversified base of donors, seeking out and securing individual and foundation donors, as well as strengthening Buxton’s ties to its various constituents.
The Director of Development & Alumni Affairs will design, implement, and oversee all short-term and long-term fundraising efforts including the school’s annual campaign, foundation and individual donor prospect research and grant writing, alumni cultivation, board development, donor records maintenance, and endowment growth. With the school’s directors, board, and other key staff, the Director of Development will advise, prepare, and participate in an upcoming holistic Strategic Plan for the school.
The Director of Development & Alumni Affairs will work with other members of staff to create strategies to reach out to and stay in touch with all of our constituents—helping to organize and coordinate virtual and in-person events; create and maintain a consistent social-media presence; help with yearly publications; and be the primary point person for our on-campus reunions.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and manage all fundraising activities including the annual Buxton Fund and coordinating the annual Yearbook solicitation with the senior class, special projects, and other school-related solicitations.
Support capital and endowment campaigns, in conjunction with the leadership of the school, the president of the board, and trustee committees
Support school administration, Board president, Development Committee, and Board of Trustees
Develop strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, and relations
Manage alumni relations including outreach, engagement, communications and events, such as the biennial June Reunion at Buxton, annual Buxton gathering in NYC, and regional gatherings
Coordinate and support constituent communications including printed Annual Report, e-Newsletter, informational email blasts, and the school’s social media presence (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
Set internal infrastructure, systems and policies for the Development Office and Development database
Serve as point person for Board president for Board meeting logistics and materials, tracks Board terms of office
Attend all board meetings and present development report at each
Participate as a member of the administrative staff team
Supervise the Assistant to the Director of Development

What we’re looking for in a candidate:
Several years of fundraising experience on a similar scale with demonstrated growth
Being a good “self-starter”: generating ideas and seeing projects to completion in a small shop
Knowledge of/experience with progressive education and/or boarding schools a plus
Good communication skills, both in writing and in person
