THE ROLE
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and experienced Networks & IT Support Engineer to join our busy delivery team. You’ll be supporting both our large project installations with network setup and configuration, as well as supporting our Aftercare & Maintenance Team to ensure that our clients’ maintained AV systems remain up and running.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Provide first line support for our Service Desk
Covering and dealing promptly with IT, Networking, Control and AV support issues from our clients
Providing network and IT support to our engineers in the field
Supported by Senior Engineers and Product Managers.
IT support for our office and staff
Supporting the IT needs of our office, and staff whether working in the office or out on site
Working with, and escalating certain matters to our office IT support company as and when needed
Prepare and assist with network pre-configuration and documentation for our projects to support our engineers out in the field
Your time out in the field will be managed on a rotation basis when we can schedule cover for your office- based tasks.
Where appropriate, improve, streamline and document the process of our office IT and Network support and work to ensure a high level of detail and a consistent approach.
Work to support the company to ensure that SMC’s company procedures are followed and our ISO 9001 and NSI accreditations are maintained.
Advancing your knowledge and skills in the various sections of our work, which will enable you to support our Service Desk more effectively
The successful candidate will be;
Excellent at fault finding and methodical and logical in their approach to finding and implementing a successful resolution
Have excellent interpersonal skills as you must be able to relay in simple terms to the client and other members of the SMC team the work you have completed, whilst keeping the Aftercare Team / Project Managers up to date with your progress and any outstanding issues.
Have good attention to detail and be well organised. You will be expected to produce, after each callout or maintenance visit, a detailed and accurate report of what you have completed.
KEY SKILLS
As networks form the backbone of all our systems being able to install and configure network equipment is a must. Understanding how the network supports each AV sub system would be advantageous.
REQUIRED
Experience of both Windows and MAC operating systems
An understanding of Active Directory and Office 365
Knowledge of IP addressing, DHCP, DNS and VLANs.
Practical experience of trouble shooting and configuring structured category cabling, network switches, wireless access points and routers. (Our current product set includes; Cisco, Meraki, Ruckus & Draytek)
Understanding of Internet connections and delivery methods.
Understanding of OSI model.
Desirable
An interest in Smart Home technology.
Good knowledge of residential AV, control (Crestron, KNX, Rti) Lutron lighting and network systems (Cisco, Ruckus, Meraki)
Experience with setting up of CCTV cameras and NVRs (Samsung)
Apple/iTunes eco system
Telephone Systems (VOIP, SIP)
The ability to read and work from schematic drawings
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
The candidate should ideally have:
2+ years relevant experience
Be used to working on their own, as well as working both in a Networks Engineering Team and as part of a broader project delivery team.
Hold a clean and current driving licence
Have a valid ECS card
Their own hand tools. Specialist tools will be provided.
Be prepared to join our Out of Hours rota as some of our systems are maintained on a 24/7 contract.
